Hi all,

Thinking of a chain oiler... initially thought about the ScottOiler/Pro-Oiler but then saw the Loobman... no need to wire, a squeeze a day and it's done (and cheap). A mate swears by his ScottOiler and has even reverted to standard roller chains. Any Monster chain oiler experiences out there?

Can't see the point really, not now we have o-ring chains and chain wax, proper chain maintenance involves cleaning all the grit and crud off as well as checking tension and if your not doing that your chain life will be drastically reduced, no matter what type of chain or auto lube system you've got.
With the non o-ring chains, its not that there's no lube under the rollers that causes them to wear quickly it's the grit getting in and grinding away that does that.
Having gone through a few chains in my time I count the o-ring chain as one of the better innovations.

Aint no substitute for a bit of elbow grease and regular cleaning, lubing and adjusting!!  [thumbsup]

Having a chain oiler is just another thing on your bike that could go wrong. Not to mention adding more weight (if your into that) to your bike.
I see they have merit but call me old school - "O" ring chains, a clean every now and then and a adjustment check and lube every few rides job done. [thumbsup]

I think your more likely to spot trouble with your chain if you do the mandatory check/adjust/lube every few rides. I know a mate has an oiler on his jap machine and he thinks that he doesn't need to worry about the chain until things look very obvious.

No monster specific experience but I had a friend who installed one on his Yam. Took a bit of fiddling to get it right and the plastic tube that drips oil onto the chain wouldn't stay in place too well. He was thinking of getting some thin metal pipe from the back of an old fridge to modify it so it stayed where he put it.

Biggest problem on the monster is where to put the reservoir. There's no room under the seat so where would it go?

I think its more a touring mod where you do big mileage and don't get to lube the chain on the trip.

I've had a Scottoiler for 7 years or so and have been very happy with it. I have a double sided rear swingarm and so can only speak from that perspective. For me the reservoir  is tucked under the side panel just below the seat. :)
