Title: Tigerbike racing back in action! AFM Round 3 May 24/25 Infineon Raceway Post by: DanTheMan on May 20, 2008, 09:18:14 AM Race fans, incase you didn't get enough excitement last week Tigerbike racing is back for round three of AFM racing.
Tigre-Coming off his first AMA round is looking to make a big comeback in Opentwins, 750 superbike and Formula 1. After last rounds disastrous brake failure he's going to have to work his way up through the grip. His new found speed and experience from riding AMA could boost him back to the top 5 in Open twins. DanTheMan- So far its been a great start to the season finishing 2nd in both 250p races, just looking to keep the momentum going and hopefully secure my first win. Also looking to take over the championship points lead which im trailing by one point. Also looking to keep riding hard in 500Twins. Tigre, I can't believe you're racing again. Why not just be a spectator for a weekend? You so crazy... [laugh] DTM, would love to see you out there. I missed your 250 race because someone had to go an crash and be all "look at me, my bike's in 14 pieces, my foot's pointing the wrong way, blah, blah, blah..." [cheeky] Your season is shaping up nicely. DATV, I would like to be there when things start to click for you again. I know it's going to happen any day now. [thumbsup] Good luck all -belle Title: Re: Tigerbike racing back in action! Could someone post the exact time and race title that you are all going to be racing in? Many thanks! Title: Re: Tigerbike racing back in action! AFM Round 3 May 24/25 Infineon Raceway Post by: duckwrench13 on May 22, 2008, 10:25:05 AM From my quick conversation with Tigre the other night, it sounds like Sunday's going to be a full race day. He said he wanted to do all of his classes, Opentwins, 750 superbike and Formula 1.
He feels that just getting to AMA last week was a huge success, but would like to focus more on the AFM races, and earn more points there. He's seated fairly well, and could very likely be in the top runnings by the last races of the season. I agree with him on that. It will also gives us further opportunity to test, refine, and develop the bike so he can get the absolute best potential from it. We kicked around the idea of AMA at Laguna, in September, but for now it's just an idea. BTW, I think DTM's got the whole weekend's schedule up in the first post. Many thanks! its not that simple, start times vary on many factors. The best i can tell you is the start around 10:00am and lunch is always 12:00-:1:00. Lunch may start late but it always ends at 1pm and race 5 starts there after. Hopefully its a smooth day and all races will go one right after the other. Bad days there can be some timely delays. AFM Round 3 May 24/25 Infineon Raceway Post by: tigre on May 25, 2008, 09:53:12 PM My report is going to be short because I left feeling really bad about how I rode today. I'll let the others report in themselves.
Results: 15th in 750 Superbike 9th in Open Twins, turning in a 1:45.3 on the AFM timing system 12th in Formula 1 Reason I feel bad: I got my foot stuck in my wheel during the Open Twins race and stopped the bike right at the apex of 9. An incredibly dangerous place to put the bike. To make matters worse, I got the bike moving again without looking over my shoulder to gauge where other people where moving. At the time, I didn't realize how bad that was... then a few people approached me to talk about it. Then I looked at the pictures and watched my onboard video. It was bad. This last month has been extremely hard on you, both physically and psychologically. It's been a non-stop fight since last month, and I think it's definitely taking its toll on you. It took its toll on me, for sure, and I wasn't the one in the hot seat. Take it all in. Acknowledge the mistakes. If we cannot make mistakes, and learn from them, then that is where we truly fail. You have some good down time coming up, make good use of it. Do the rebuild on the beast, but don't forget to do some rebuilding on yourself. Get some rest. Eat healthy, and relax. Your body's telling you it's wearing down, and your mind won't keep it going all by itself. Take a step back, and breathe a little. It's alright to loosen the grip once in a while. You won't slip, you'll just be stronger later when you need it. If I've learned anything from deployment, and my injury, it's that being rested, and mentally prepared is far better than pushing yourself to the absolute limit. When you've pushed that hard, and that far, it's really hard to recover when you slip over that edge. I'm not sayin' you're wrong, Brother. Just sayin' you've been fightin' the good fight for a long hard time now, and it's time to ease up and get yerself back. Lots of little things fall through the cracks when you get so focused on just one thing, and it's all those combined little things that'll bite you in the ass. Rest and recover. You've got a good, solid, crew that's ready to go at the drop of a hat. You know this. You've seen and experienced it. YOU worry about YOU. Let us sweat the rest of the shit. We are a team. We are a family. And we take care of our own. Title: Re: Tigerbike racing back in action! The announcer said he thought you had "locked up or seized (your) transmission" and that you "left a giant cloud of white smoke". Folks in the grand stand were commenting on the size of your heuvos that you got out and kept riding the bike after what appeared to be a major mechanical. You did pull out in heavy traffic...it happens...the other riders didn't seem that phased. Hell, it's a race... Title: Re: Tigerbike racing back in action! AFM Round 3 May 24/25 Infineon Raceway Post by: DanTheMan on May 27, 2008, 09:28:26 AM It wasn't the best of weekends. Sat around most of the day Saturday. Got two practice sessions in but the track was cold both times so they were useless. Then the rain came and we sat around the rest of the day, took a nap, had some beer and did some flood control. then i crashed in Sunday. Oh and I got a $100 fine for blowing a red flag [roll]
250p race. Got a good start and was out in front of everyone going into two, but it seem I back off too much a few people got by. Another rider got by and I had some difficulty passing her. She just slams the door every where and I have no room to get by unless I take the dirt. So P1 and P2 got away by the time I got around her and I thought I had a chance to catch up. Well I might of but then I decided to just highside in turn 2. Well it had the starts of a highside but I think I save it and turned it into a tank slapper. Cresting the top of two, I got on the gas hard and I feel the back end step out, It caught and kicked my up the first time and I think when I landed I was hanging off the right side of the bike. Then it went into a tank slapper and bucked me off the right side and the bike fell over on the left. Very easy and gentle fall for me and the bike. I was able to get up and get the bike out of the way before the corner worker was able to get to me. I ended up with a small bruise on my leg and that's about it. Bike had a bent clutch lever and shift lever, the windscreen was destroyed other than that its ready to go. The worst part of the crash was my helmet touching down so now I need a new helmet :'( I could have ran the 500T race later in the day but I decided to pack it in. Which was good cause some guy oiled the track in that race and a few bikes went down so im glad I missed it. This takes a huge blow in my chances for wining one of the top spots in the series but there is still 5 races left, we'll see what happens. Title: Re: Tigerbike racing back in action! AFM Round 3 May 24/25 Infineon Raceway Post by: CharliesAngel on May 27, 2008, 09:58:04 AM I think Sunday was a weird day at the races...there seem to have been a lot of random things happening (or this normal for an AFM race?). Another rider I know had to start his race 3 x's, then his helmet visor flew off so he couldn't finish his race (but then I heard the red flag came up for the 3rd time for that class). Dan, I saw another rider lowside on Turn 2 just before you on a Vintage bike. And then there was Tigre's boot which was not a pretty sight. But the important thing is that all of you were able to walk away in one piece. As Dan mentioned, here's to the other 5 races left!
Title: Re: Tigerbike racing back in action! AFM Round 3 May 24/25 Infineon Raceway Post by: datv on May 27, 2008, 10:11:42 AM I really could have used the Saturday practice. I had some suspension issues I needed to work out from last race weekend. It was such a busy month for me that I didn't even get a trackday in between races. Anyway, no excuses. My race day went fine - I neither did well nor poorly - just mid pack kind of stuff. First race I made finished a few spots ahead from my starting position, second race down a few. Regardless, I'm not fast enough or where I want to be - must practice.
THe two real issues i need to work out before next race weekend are 1st - suspension. The bike is squatting in turns and not finishing up with a tight line. this shouldn't be too hard to sort out - I just need some track time. The second issue was my starts. I actually got off the line in both races really well (it helps when my clutch works) - I think I moved up a few rows each time. Anyway, between turn 1 and 2, the door was shut on me in both races. Other riders converged and there was nowhere for me to continue the momentum. I had to check up and then all the ground I made up was instantly lost. I'm not so sure what to do about this to avoid it happening again. Maybe I just need a plan and push myself to either the inside or the outside at the start. Maybe I've just got to grow a pair :-\ There was lots of issues on Sunday, and there were two extended times the track was shut down to pick up a rider and bikes. That sketchy stuff with oil being laid down before F1 wasn't so confidence inspiring. So all in all, it was a good day to get through. I finished both races and don't have to replace my boots.
