Title: draining fuel tank '06 S2R
Post by: booger on July 03, 2009, 09:26:16 AM
Simple question, how do I drain the tank on this thing? No petcock, and I don't want to make a mess. I have the factory shop manual and it makes no mention of actually how to do it. I also don't want to go out and buy anything like a siphon to do this, as my bike tool collection is vast enough as it is. I'm assuming that if I were to remove the return and feed lines without having drained the tank first that there will be trouble, i.e. there is no check valve in either fitting. Is there an easy way of doing this without having to go out and buy a fuel siphon?

hold it wide open until it runs out of gas.

Not helpful, and running the tank dry is bad for the fuel pump. [roll]

Anyone else have any tips, preferably helpful ones?

Some fuel will dribble out after you disconnect, but I'm 99% sure it'll not leak after that.

If you have a mighty vac, get a tube in there and pull out just enough to establish a siphon. Gravity will do the rest.

FWIW they make very cheap hand siphons - shoudl be able to find them at any auto store.  I use one to drain other things (lawn mowers, boat etc.).
