Title: S4r water temp in traffic
Post by: va122 on July 05, 2009, 12:11:53 PM
Guys,

my S4r's water temp digital display read's "hi" when I'm in traffic. WTF?

What is normal? Riding free I'm around 185 to 200F and in traffic 220 to Hi

Should I worry?  :-\

No that's too high...Don't know a solution, but I know that's damn hot!

When is the last time you flushed the system? What kinda coolant do you use? Have you check your sensors?

^^ yeah and verify your fans are working!!^^ If everything is working and you are still getting those temps, there is something seriously wrong. I would be looking at the thermostat & the rad cap (not holding pressure). If you open her up and do work on it, only add 25% coolant back in and some redline water wetter...

fans are working.

Never flushed the coolant. got the bike a couple weeks ago with 1400 mi. I put 750 on it so far.

Sat in a garage for 3 years...

I'll flush the system and see what happens.

I would avoid any of the automotive chemicals used for flushing unless you do not get good results from distilled water alone. Make sure you dilute it down AND it is expressly for aluminum.
