Title: Running lean in 6th
Post by: erkishhorde on July 06, 2009, 09:00:49 AM
So after finally getting my bike running decently again I put in about 200mi this weekend, mostly freeway. In my travels I found that the bike is running rather lean at freeway speeds. Any thoughts on what I can do about this? After the first 100mi I had already noticed it but it didn't bother me enough to do anything about it. Then after the second 100mi it died on me on the freeway again from fuel starvation.  [bang] Got started up relatively quickly enough and didn't notice anything bad afterward but after everything I went through with my last problems I want to fix this one right away. I'm thinking I might have tweaked something a bit when I cleaned the carbs. I didn't mess with the pilot screw but I might have unknowingly tweaked the floats or something.

Things I've recently done:
'95 m900
POR15 tank
new fuel filter (got a random fuel filter from autozone with a relocated output so I could re-route my fuel hoses under the tank)
new fuel hoses everywhere from the tank to the carbs
new fuel pump (opened the old one and didn't see anything wrong with it but replaced it for kicks anyway)

I know it seems funny but I'm not worried so much about the dying on the freeway bit. I'm worried more about the running lean and underpowered at freeway speeds. I'm hoping that fixing that problem will eliminate the dying at freeway speeds part. Plus, after everything I've been through I already know most of the suggestions for fixing the dying on the freeway part and will start checking those things today.

So, suggestions on how to fix the running lean and underpowered at freeway speeds? TIA

Fuel tank vent blockage? Have you pinched a hose underneath the tank?

Nope. Actually I replaced that too. But still nope.
