Title: Cleaning seat and tires
Post by: puchika on July 07, 2009, 09:00:32 AM

Are there any recommended products to clean and protect the stock seat?  A lot of vinyl car products specify not to use on bike seats.  I guess they don't want you slipping off on a curve!  Should I even bother?

What about tires?  Should I just leave them alone or is there a safe protectant to use on them?

TIA  [moto]

Don't use ArmorAll.

why do you want to clean your tires? that makes no sense to me... unless there is something on it. carb cleaner always worked good for me.

A product called 303 protectant is what I use for the plastic parts on my car and bike. It helps prevent the 'graying' of the plastic due to UV exposure. It's not greasy like Armor All so I'd wager it would be good for the stock seat. Armor All sucks.
I can't really speak about the tires, I just scrub them with bike wash and call it a day.

As far as the tires go, if you can store your bike indoors, or at least out of direct sunlight, that's sufficient IMO.

Contact Cleaner is pretty harsh on rubber and vinyl.

You don't want to get it on the tread of the tires, though.

It is beyond me why people want slippery, shiny tires.  Just wash them.

I don't like it when my sidewalls are brown. But I like staying upright more than not having brown tires...

Here in the desert, sidewalls can start to crack after about a year without some kind of treatment.  115Ëš and 3% humidity will do that.  As much as I hate brown tires, replacing otherwise good tires is really a pregnant dog.

I wouldn't put anything on the tires.  If you own them long enough to crack then you don't ride hard enough.   ;D

I have four licensed motorcycles.  I ride almost every day, year round.  You?  [laugh]

I have the year round part down, but not the four bikes part.  [bang]
