Title: Average Cost of 7000 mile service?
Post by: Fistgar on July 09, 2009, 06:35:15 AM
I'm fast approaching 7000 miles on the odometer and am wondering what kind of dent my pocketbook is going to take when I take it in for the service!  What did it cost you 695 riders to get your 7000 mile service done at the Ducati dealer and what all did they do? (bit of a newb to Ducati's)

^ wow thats not the way to treat someone new here.....To the oP I am sorry some people are like that. Welcome! [thumbsup] I have a friend do mine and only paid $250..but I am thinking the regular price would be 500ish. (I had a few extra things changed (fuel line, tank Kreemed etc..) I am sure someone will be along with a better answer!

A good starting point is to check a web site that lists the prices.  Nichols Sportbike Service http://motorcycle.nicholsmfg.com (http://motorcycle.nicholsmfg.com) is the best place in the San Francisco Bay Area to take a Ducati for any service and also has the best prices.  They're not a dealer, but have worked things out with Modesto Ducati to handle any warranty work.

Here's their price list for a full service, including valve adjustment.  If the bike needs cam belts, they only add the cost of the belts.

ST2/MTS â€" $340
999/749 & ST4/ST3 â€" $440
748/851/888/916/955/996 â€" $400
M620/M750/M900/750SS/900SS â€" $300

Are you serious  ???

I wasn't trying to be a dick, sorry if it came off that way.

There is just no point in starting another thread about something that has been talked about and answered numerous times and can easily be found by using the handy dandy search button.

Here, I'll do it for ya,

I am serious!!!!!! I always check out peoples post counts before I tell them to search, most of the time they are new to Ducati and new here, so I cut them slack! either way ride safe!

Could I suggest a third option?

Go ahead and tell the poster to search, then show what to search for in quotes as well as the first two or three good links that it finds.  That way the new guy can see how to do it next time and they also get an answer right away without getting frustrated.  I've seen times when people have been quick to point out that a search would answer a question when it's not all that easy to search for their particular topic.

It will take you twice as long to make your post, but what's a whole minute compared to thirty seconds?

my dealer has quoted me at $350 + parts (valve shims if necessary, and belts if necessary, which i would say they are...) so the ~$500 is usually pretty close.

welcome to the lovely world of owning a ducati...
you should now go out and by a smaller wallet :) you wont be need much room anymore :P

Well, lets see what you bike will need for its 7500 mile service:

Oil and filter change - parts are typically about $75. Figure $40 for half an hour's worth of labor.
Cam Belt Tensioning - should be included in the valve adjustment.
Valve clearance inspection - typically about 2 hours of labor, so figure about $160.
Valve shims are about $10 a shim, so at the most, you would need to pay $80 for all the shims to be replaced.

So, I would expect about $320, total, with 4 shims needing to be replaced.
For your 15k mile service, just add in the replacement cost of the cam belts, which is ~$75 a piece.

BC.

This topic actually helps me out too since I'm coming up on it as well. About the search topic, it's a great tool, but CAN be tedious to filter through if you don't know exactly what to search.

I had my 7500 mile service done at Nichols on my 695 and it was exactly $300 for labor and about $50 for parts. [thumbsup]

Yes, the search is not particularly user friendly.

Thanks for the quick replies and information!  I know I don't post alot on here, but I troll the forums daily and have found TONS of useful info.  Minnesotamonster, I totally understand your first post and don't begrudge you at all for suggesting the search.  Honest-to-god, it was the first thing that I did, but my search queries came up with more questions than answers.  Probably because I was not typing in the same search criteria ;)  my bad man, my bad.  Fortunately, your answers have put me much more at ease, I've read some horror stories about ducati service calls and  had bought this 695 used with about 3500 miles for my wife.  It's fast approaching that 7000 mile mark and I don't exactly "trust" my local Ducati dealer... (they be a wee bit shady).  Thanks again to all of you for your answers!
[thumbsup]
