Just wondering how often you all detail your bikes?i clean it every ride but to detail clean? not that much.
Generally wash and dry after every ride.
All my rides average between 125-150+ miles.
Detail ,like every nock and cranny. Once a year.
Dolph :)
Well....I had it for three years, and didn't do it once during those three years, so I guess I'd have to say once every decade. Give or take a decade.
When it rains
I'll give it a warsh every couple weeks. Looks like hell after rain and my backpack tends to scratch up the seat cowl when it's dirty.
Detail? I did it once. Never again. I don't see the point as it isn't a show bike and after a ride it's dirty anyway. No sense spending hours cleaning it. Aint a Harley, and I'd rather ride than polish my bits.
Bike bits.
Never. why?
<rant:on>
-No matter what i do, there is about a pound of gunk hiding behind my sprocket cover and sprocket from chain picking up dirt and grime, even if i just drive 5 feet out of my drive way.
-Because there is a huge oil stain on my exahust valve cover. (DS1000) and no matter what it wont go away unless i strip the paint
-no matter what there is always some kind of oil/grease/grime on my rim that takes a lot of hard work to get off. From time to time, ill soak my rim in WD-40 to wash it, but its too much work 99% of the time so this gets done maybe once a year. usually its just a rag to wipe of the brake dust...and thats only because i hate washing my riding gear.
-my tank. lets not get into that, from the number of sand storms ive ridden through from 20mph winds on the FDR, the 100mph leafs that hit my tank, and the bird poos on it, nothing will protect the soft clear coat except a harder clear.
- engine? sorry, ive tried my best to clean it. everything from synthetic cleaners to organic cleaners, and everything in between. short of using paint stripper (which worked btw) theres not much you can do to keep it looking good.
In otherwords, i could care less about detailing her. I just use a hose, a wet rag, a watever rag for the wheel, and a dry clean rag and a can of honda proshine. 5 minutes is all i need. everything else is futile.
[laugh] Seriously? I finished assembling it last May. It's had two baths. And they wouldn't qualify as "detailing". I clean and lube the chain way more than the rest. I painted it though to hide dirt. I wipe off grime if it's excessive. I'm a bad Ducati owner, I ride it like I stole it, tune and adjust it myself.... hell I built it from dead.
it's lucky if it gets a quick bath twice a year.
I give 'er a wash every couple of rides, and try to get a coat of wax on the painted plastic bits 2x per year. Every now and then, I'll use Protect-All on the wheels.
+1 to paying way more attention to the chain than the other bits.
I hear you all, just curious...i did it one time and never again, after one ride it seems like i never did any detailing at all. Thanks!
My main problem is all the bugs I kill here in S. Florida. But they tend to burn off on the next ride.
;D
I wash it off now and again. That consist of hosing it down, spraying with Bike Bright, and hosing again. I usually spend more time on the chain then the rest of the bike.
once a year whether she needs it or not. 8)
after every single ride...that way it only takes 15 minutes!
Wash it once a week, detail it once a month. :)
My bike also get ridden about 2-300 miles a week
I wash my bike every now and then, but wipe it down with a soft cotton towel every few days.
Until fairly recently, I ride every day year round. It's my principle means of conveyance. When you ride every day, it's a little harder to keep up with cleaning.
I've been recouping from hip surgery and am now able to get around so I may do the all day detail you speak of. Takes a lot longer than washing a big truck or car.
LA
i have had mine since october of last year and have wiped the brake dust and bugs off twice ;D
5 min after every ride.
I ride almost every day 30 mi round-trip to work and back. I do chain clean/lube and detail about avery 350 to 450 miles.
aside from chain maintenance...
about as often as I wash/detail my car.
which is, like... never...
I wipe the wheels off every time I change a tire. And around the drain plug and filter when I change the oil.

Is that you Billy Mays? What are you talking about? I wipe off the wheel whenever I put a new tire on. That's it. Whenever I change the oil, I wipe around the drain plug and filter, to keep the dirt away from the holes. Seems pretty clear to me. I don't clean my bike. I'm working on a ratbike project.
im talking about exactly what your talking about. I like it. Why bother breaking your back cleaning your bike, just do it when you need to service it.
I clean the chain before every ride and only wash her once a year. :)
Wash after the bugs get thick, probably every 400 miles. Takes maybe 30 mins. I only "detailed" it right after I got it. That included a toothbrush and some WD-40. Never again.
5-10 min after every ride to remove bugs and quick clean
wipe it down every so often.
never washed or detailed it.
