Title: AFM Round 5 -- July @ Thill -- quick update Post by: tigre on July 11, 2009, 10:38:18 AM TigerBike Racing supporters:
Last round was a bit tough. 750 Superbike was a shining moment in an otherwise gloomy weekend. After crashing out of a comfortable 3rd place position in Open Twins, I dropped to 4th in the points behind Nick Hayman from Munroe's. I dropped down to 9th in points for Formula 1, but am well adrift of 7th. Since I'm 7th in the points for 750 superbike and poised to move up to 6th, I will race back-to-back races at the end of the day on Sunday. Should be sweltering. Won't be fun... *sigh* A little more about the drama getting ready for this weekend. After my crash, we dropped the motor to get the frame straightened. I got back out to the track 2 weeks later and within 10 laps my piston broke. We went in and replaced the pistons, and then noticed one of the main bearings was bad. Split the cases to replace the bearing, and found a crack in the engine case. While the cases were apart, also noticed two of my gears from my close-ratio gearbox were bad. Those are at least getting warranteed. [thumbsup] So... I missed Friday practice, and got up here last night. I rode the first two sessions slowly while breaking in my essentially completely new motor. I got down in the the 1:59's, so not terribly far off the pace. Now I'll pull the pin and see what I can do in the two afternoon sessions. I'm concerned about no longer having the close-ratio box, but that will be a bigger issue at Sears Point than it will be here. *sigh* Yours truly, Tiggy PS - time for a new bike. Anyone got an 1198 or 1198S they want to part with? Title: Re: AFM Round 5 -- July @ Thill -- quick update Post by: Spidey on July 11, 2009, 10:51:49 AM That's teh suck. Definitely time for a new tigremobile. It's not like the 749GRRRRRR hasn't had a good and long (albeit difficult) life.
G'luck tomorrow. [thumbsup] [moto] Title: Re: AFM Round 5 -- July @ Thill -- quick update Post by: duckwrench13 on July 11, 2009, 11:50:40 AM So what you're saying is that it's just business as usual. Good luck Sunday!

Like you said before, time for a new bike I think... Title: Re: AFM Round 5 -- July @ Thill -- quick update Post by: Spidey on July 11, 2009, 04:45:26 PM Update:
Tigre is wrenching away (as usual). He got Nick Hayman's--Munroe Motors owner--crashed 999 for tomorrow. Nice move from Nick. [thumbsup] Tigre just need to swap out all kinds of parts from his 749R onto the 999 to fix the crash damage. Then race on a bike set up for someone else with completely different suspension settings. Open Twins is the third race so hopefully he can learn the bike in the prior two races. The downside is that the second race is back to back with Open Twins. Not ideal. G'luck, Tigre. Title: Re: AFM Round 5 -- July @ Thill -- quick update Post by: Desmostro on July 12, 2009, 10:18:04 AM btw, how is the "Dark Knight" (aka Datv) doing?
[bacon] Title: Re: AFM Round 5 -- July @ Thill -- quick update Post by: Spidey on July 12, 2009, 10:46:14 AM datv is not racing this weekend.
I just got a text from Steve. Good news--Tigre got Nick Hayman's bike together and got down to 1:56 in Formula One. He even beat Nick Hayman. Man, that's some good sportsmanship from the Munroe Motors gang. [thumbsup] He's got 750SB and then Open Twins back to back. Title: Re: AFM Round 5 -- July @ Thill -- quick update Post by: Desmostro on July 12, 2009, 11:50:57 AM That's pretty freaking cool from Monroe guys. [thumbsup]
How's he going to do 750SB with a 999? Is that a 750 4 cyl/ what-ever twin class? Title: Re: AFM Round 5 -- July @ Thill -- quick update Post by: Spidey on July 12, 2009, 11:55:18 AM 750SB and Formula I allow 750 I4 and twins under 1000 (not 1098). Tigre usually runs his 848cc 749R, but a 999 is allowed. I don't know if there are any classes where a 1098 or 1198 can run down a class. I think they're stuck with Open GP or Open Production, where they're running against 1000cc GSXRs, etc.
Title: Re: AFM Round 5 -- July @ Thill -- quick update Post by: tigre on July 12, 2009, 06:04:39 PM Yep -- open classes only for the 1098/1198's.
Fast lap of 1:55.7. Gogo's best lap was a 1:55.9. Blackburns' a 1:55.7 (higher than mine by a few hundredths). I really think I could have gotten 2nd without the chunking rear tire. But I couldn't throw away a bike that wasn't mine. Much better to beat the owner. :) Title: Re: AFM Round 5 -- July @ Thill -- quick update Post by: Michael Moore on July 12, 2009, 06:08:05 PM Second place is still great. Congrats!
Title: Re: AFM Round 5 -- July @ Thill -- quick update Post by: tigre on July 12, 2009, 06:10:28 PM No... I got 4th. :'(

Title: Re: AFM Round 5 -- July @ Thill -- quick update Post by: mostrobelle on July 12, 2009, 08:05:13 PM Wow...that's a lot of headache. Hope it was worth it. (Sounds like it was. :)) Sorry I wasn't able to make this round--hopefully I'll make your next Sears date, and hopefully your bike is all better by then. [thumbsup]

Title: Re: AFM Round 5 -- July @ Thill -- quick update Post by: Drunken Monkey on July 12, 2009, 09:14:10 PM Very respectable finishes! [thumbsup]
And sorry to hear about the motor woes Title: Re: AFM Round 5 -- July @ Thill -- quick update Post by: tigre on July 12, 2009, 11:11:40 PM I just got back form the shop. I took all my parts back off Nick's bike. Tomorrow I swap the shock and then I can give it back to him.
