Saw, I mean heard a loud red bike with what looked like a white racing stripe or a huge bird turd that hit the windshield and went all the way to the tail this morning going down fillmore.  Oh, wait that was me admiring my bike in a store window when I was at a stoplight.  mo:t:

I see a 620D almost daily heading west on 84 near Marsh Road about 5:30-5:45pm.  And everytime I pass by a store with large windows, I must admit, I can't help but look.  I'll probably run into the back of  some random car because of it too.

Hi there!  :)  I made a quick dash up to SF this morning for supplies. No traffic to speak of except for that stretch of 101. Sheesh. I hate those narrow lanes.

While in SF I saw, parked in the moto parking on Grant at Market, a very nice-looking older duc, lots of mods, grey, with <gasp> TOB url  on the rear seat cowl. Clean that anathema off!  ;)

Much better, thanks! :)

He is full of energy (sometimes too much [roll]).  Hopefully next week he will get his casts off, then we start the rehab process.

The Butts Canyon area has always been one of my favorite rides. Have you gone out 175 toward Cobb and run Bottle Rock? Or gone up to the Goldmine Rd? That is one badass run. Though we usually turn around and come back as the road turns to sh1t from the goldmine to berryessa.

[threadjack] I thought it was ok ... I wasn't that excited over it.  In person, it does look like a modern "evolution" of the Monster, so I guess I will get used to it.  It does look better in person than the pictures show though.  And next to the multistrada, it looks pretty good.     [laugh] [/threadjack]

Yesterday, 4pm, stuck on GG bridge southbound, at the accident (head on collision, car looked really bad, couldn't even tell the make, Ouch!)

Waiting for all involved to get things cleaned up & moving again, and a 1098s Tri pulls in next to me (dude, what's up with the sneakers, w/no socks, no less?), then a yellow Monster, nicely modded, open clutch, Staintune (?) pipes

Nice white 848 on northbound side.

Things get moving again, and we have a 3 Ducati procession, with a BMW R80 in tow, AND a police escort!

Grace is such a lovely space, and for the right kind of music , the 6 second delay in the hall acoustics is amazing.  Organ performances are great!

also did not see any ducs today which itself was unusual during my commute.

Grace is beautiful. For a short time I sang with a mixed choir there and they told us the echo was 7.4 seconds.  :o
It's kinda funny trying to get the congregation to sing along with the organ, though. We're always hopelessly off, and the further back you are, the more off.

Bike: Red 1098 westbound on Daly Boulevard, by Westlake Shopping Center, Daly City.
Date: 6/11/08
Time: About 3pm

I had to turn off the car stereo to hear the clutch. By the sound of the clutch I could determine that it was a 1098 and not an 848, since I could only see it from the rear. Must have had stock pipes since the bike was so quiet.

I really don't understand why you SF people post Monster sightings. If I stop in the city for a concert, I'll see at least 4 or 5 Monsters between where I park and the venue. That's just a few minutes of one evening.
I think you all just want to boost your post numbers.

This is one more post for me!

I think we in SF should have a "Non-Monster Sightings" thread. But wait, that would be a little hard to maintain  ;D

2nd, red, Bay Bridge Eastbound, 3:30. Came up from left side, and deftly moved through traffic. [moto]

OK, so a little OT, but I had my first on-track experience of being passed by a Desmoseidici. They were "breaking it in" so that's why Matt Green was riding in the B+ group.

Anyway, he passed me going into turn 14 at Thunderhill, and as we were exiting onto the straight he took off like I was riding my Vespa instead of the R6. Like he was shot out of a cannon. Absolutely, frickin incredible, and an honor to behold. Oh, and the sound of that thing as it went by me - it gave me wood. ;D

Grizzly Peak to Strawberry Canyon, freaking awesome sounding 620 - if you hadn't told me i would have been totally confused for the rest of the day - with red rims and work on the fork/front.  Those pipes.. now i know what my leetle dark could sound like, i have to know if there was a full exhaust replacement or slip-on's.

i swear, i was like an idiot puppy from the moment we hit the stop sign at right angles to each other.  like in Metal Gear, when the little exclamation sound appears over people when they notice something - it was like that.  i actually HEARD that sound, and then it was drowned out by the pipes.  my brain went "S4?" because of the red, but it was.. small/weird/something different.

i wanted to play hookey SO BAD, and follow you where-the-hell-ever, but i turned off into work like a good little dog.   [bang]

Um, not really a Monster sighting, but it is just too cool not to post up. Got to see AND HEAR the mythical beast in person!! Yes, a D16 with the race exhaust on it.  :o Damn, that thing is pure rider porn. It was so cold blooded he must have had to start it at least 6 times to get it to stay running. It wasn't even fully assembled so that may have been a part of it and he didn't seem too adept at the fast idle operation. It was either a really (too fast) fast idle or it would die.

Absolutely stunning sound.  [evil] I was gonna hang around for him to finish "assembling" it as he was gonna take it out for spin but I had just had my new BST's mounted up with new M3's and wanted to get home and get my own beast back together....  [thumbsup]

This was ... Tuesday (?) 9/2 morning, about 8:30 am, southbound on 101 around Burlingame. I was splitting, in my usual cautious way (it only takes one car cutting into you to make you eternally slow in the share lane ;)), when I became aware of a sweet and low growl behind me.  :D

I pulled over to let you by on your dark and LOUD monster, with the wing logo on the tank, which you patted as you went by with a wave. There was another red something sporty behind you, but I only had eyes (and ears) for you....

Big smile on my face for that. Thanks!

Sounds like that was DarkStaR on his way to work.   [moto]

Exiting on Freemont from the bay bridge, a guy on a yellow 916 passed me on the left and then shifted over in the seat for the right turn.... beautiful bike, totally stoked!  I see plenty of monsters every day, but this was the first I've seen a 916 on the morning commute.

Also there's a Paul Smart Sport Classic 1000 that parks in the same alley way that I park in the city every day.... very nice... talked to him the other day, forgot his name though.

Well, Hi there!

That exhaust was put on by the former owner once removed. (In other words, by the person who had it before the guy I bought it from...) It says "Nikko Racing" on the pipes, but no one has ever been able to identify or track any such company down. Regardless, I love the sound and look, so I'm keeping 'em. Unlike the original ghastly mirrors, now replaced with fabulous CRGs...

Today on 101 South at Bowers.  8 Yellow Ducs - closely followed by a CHP.

Ok. It was really 8 ducks - a momma and her babies walking the wrong way up the freeway.  The officer was walking right behind them writing in a notebook.  If I hadn't been riding I would have tried to take a picture.  It was really funny to see this - and the officer writing made it perfect.  I could just hear him saying "I'm writing you up for going the wrong way on the freeway.  Please walk heal to toe on the line for 9 steps, stop and turn around.  Ma'am, I'm going to have to take you in for child endangerment."

Thursday evening on El Camino in Sunnyvale I saw a Pearl M1100S at a cross street.  I did a double take, he made the turn, caught up to me.  We stopped at a light and started talking and then had to pull off to talk longer. We ended up talking for about 20 minutes. Good times.  I asked - he isn't on here.

I saw you yesterday passing Farley's in a snappy gray number and Nolan.
I mused at how much the sound of your bike changes as it comes and goes over the hills.
The dry clutch dominates the early Doppler and the pipes take over in the deep baritone of the late Doppler.

Hmmm, no one out there mentioned a fatality. There were no  [leo] out there that I saw or heard (with my radar)...

I had specifically asked a rider that came out while we were BS'ing if he had seen any on the way out to be sure in advance of my planned bonzai run in. I would highly suggest you do a sane pass and look for them everywhere before you hit it hardcore...

Funny thing was, there was no one on the road at all! Aside from the 3 guys at the bridge with us, I passed no one going in and saw no one going the other direction. I don't ride it that much anymore due to the "presence" and the popularity but every time I have, it has been empty.

Wow, lucky. I was there a couple of weeks ago and nearly got taken out by some guy on a 600CBR who ran *way* wide on his corner and was on the outer edge of my lane. All I could do was pass him on the left. He ended up in the ditch so that was a good call on my part.

It was good meeting you (and Rich) too Chuck.  I'll be doing more riding on the roads "less travelled", so chances are better...

Skaggs is a cycle, like the moon and the tides.  There will be enforcement on and off for a while, then the LEOs will go elsewhere.  Word will get out that it's "open" again and the crowds (and squids) will appear.  People will start crashing, then someone will crash and get hurt, or die and the LEOs will show back up.  Sad, but true - you'd think we'd learn.

Well, "chatting" is a little generous.  I always wear earplugs, so communicating isn't always painless.   ;)

The 1100 looks great.  Black and red is obviously the best combo for Monsters!   [laugh]  How long did you keep the 696 before moving up?  6mo?  I hope you don't think less of me for riding a "little" 695.

Not Monsters but too pretty not to post.  I saw these yesterday at Alice's.

I talked to the owner of the F1 for a while.  I think I convinced him to get rid of the pipe wrap and just ceramic coat the pipe.  He did this because the pipes were getting so hot it was starting to melt the lower fairings (That's why they aren't on there).

And people today complain about 02 sensors and FI glitches.

Back in *my* day, Ducatis were fire breathing monsters that regularly melted, exploded, had horrible electrics and made you tear your pants off and throw them into trees.

Also, get off my lawn  ;D

Tuesday 12/1, 'bout 11:20 am, headed north on 101 by SFO.
Brown jacket, red and silver helmet, red tank duc, with a huge strange silver front faring with a maltese cross on it.

What was that?!?

I was on the duqette, rrrrrrred Monster.

There is a guy around riding a White 1100S.  He has come out to the South Bay Ducati dinners at Santa Row at least once.  I can't remember his name but he puts a ton of miles on and tends to throw the front tire up - a lot.
