I'm fast approaching 30,000 on my '07 695. I want to try to do this one myself and bike mechanic I know is going to walk me through the service.
So, what I need to know is - what should I buy parts-wise to make sure I have all I'll likely need at hand when I get started? Shims/seals...??? I know I'm due for belts. I'm just looking for quantity/size recommendation on the shims. I know that's the big variable.
It'll be all the normal 6K service items.
Additionally, if you have not previously, you might:
- Replace fuel filter
- Replace fork oil
- Replace plugs
- flush/bleed hydraulics
Depending on how much you want to take apart there's a bunch of otehr stuff that you could check - like the wheel cush drive, battery levels, wheel bearings, head bearings, brake pads etc etc
the M 695 uses the 7 mm valve shims used on all the superbikes. 07 and later bikes all use the same shims except the "R" bikes. Unfortunatley, you wont know what thickness of shims you need until you measure the clearances and if out of spec you remove the shims and measure their thicknesses then calculate the size of shim needed. Their are no aftermarket belts for your bike. You will have to get them at a dealer.

Yeah I was trying to see if there was a "typical" set of shims to start with - A little bit of research on my part turned up the EMS shim kit that CA-Cycleworks sells so I will start with that. Some front end investment for sure, but no big deal since I plan to continue to do my own valves and I average two valve services a year.
