Post by: dansamp on July 14, 2009, 05:25:22 AM
wondering if anyone has any advice or experience regarding Ape's

a co-worker needs to sell his bike and keeps asking me to buy it
what are these bikes worth, how is maintenance, is it really hard to
get parts ??

I am not to keen on the color (blue)  [roll]good condition new tires full exhaust system with a two brothers
muffler
I see a few on ebay that haven't sold
N.A.D.A. doesn't even show values on them because there is not enough info

I have been looking for a 4 valve Ducati but maybe I should get the Aprilia ???

his rock bottom price (at this point) is $4000.00

I think it has about 20k on th odometer

any suggestions

thanks

Dan.............

The RSV "Mille" is probably the hottest sportsbike you could get back then.
I only know people loving them to death.
But you are dealing with an 8 year old italian kit of cables too.
I would not do it without decent knowledge of the electric and stuff...
Or a friend a good one you alway could call and bribe with beer to pick you up in the middle of nowhere.
You got that ?
Great !!
Then gogogogo and catch that beauty  [drink]

I had an 03 Tuono and an 02 Futura, both were great bikes. Aprilia has gotten much better at getting parts but it took 4 months to get a throttle cable for the Tuono and the Futura's electrics had several burned spots in the harness. If I remember correctly, there is also some issues with the fuel connections breaking on the earlier models.  They're great bikes but unless there is a very good Aprilia dealer close to you I'd say buy something else.

 Like BP's 1098  ;D

My neighbor has, I believe an 01'.  He never rides it and claims it is the biggest piece of "turd" he's ever ridden.
He rides his CBR1000rr and can't say enough good stuff about the Honda. He's a decent rider if it's woth anything.

I think he might just prefer the performance of the inline 4 over the big twin.

I rode it once and it was a bit of a porker.  Typical low end grunt and decent "flickability" with a good amount of effort.

It's pretty and has a sweet exhaust note.

I think $4k in good condition with all the service history is an OK deal.  No local wrench would lead me to look elsewhere as others have indicated.

I've had a 2000.5 and still have a 2002 R.  No problems with either one.  The key is whether the bike has been maintained properly.  Blue is a rare color for these bikes.  My 02 R puts out a lot more heat than my 07 s4rs.  Something to think about in warm climates and stop and go traffic.  I've never had problems getting parts, but I shop around instead of relying on one dealer for everything.  $4K is about right for a non-R bike but supply and demand is a "pregnant dog"  -  not a big market for these.

Don't buy Joel's bike, it gives him a reason to stay unemployed for longer.   ;D

Yeah, but you're not going to get a 1098 for $4000.  They guys I knew that have or had Aprilias like them, the Rotax engine is very reliable.   I don't even know of any real Aprilia dealers.

I know that.  [cheeky] I just need to get rid of my quad for a down payment.  ;)

I just recently traded away a 2003 Aprilia Falco SL1000 R. It uses the same Rotax motor. The Rotax is bulletproof- you'll have no issues there. Aprilia builds a good bike overall.

You won't find many dealers, but parts are readily accessible from AF1 Racing and they host an active forum where you'll find all the knowledge you need. I wouldn't hesitate if you like the bike.
