what concerts does this person go to?
most of the concerts i have been to if you are in GA and you want a good spot, you work your way to it. if you want a drink or have to pee, you loose your spot unless you have friends, and even then it's not a guarantee.

Well he does say to make friends with them first, but I guess you mean real friends which would be much more effective

- Get familiar with the band? Wouldn't you already be if you're going to a show>?
- Step 6 is a good one. I've found a number of bands that were openers
My (older) set of rules for life at the 930 (when it was at 930 F) in DC
- Steel toes - you feet will get stomped
- Wear stuff you do care if it survives the show. Chances of getting torn were good, also the old 930 had a 'funk'
- No matter what time of year, jeans and short sleeves. Jeans to protect you from the funk on the floor, and short sleeves to keep from dying of heat
- Want to get though the crowd? hold your drink in front of you as high as you can. Ice water works great, and doesn't mean loosing your booze
- Stay away from the post. There was a big metal post in the middle of the floor. It scored a couple KOs over the years.

make sure to wear a t-shirt of the band you are going to see. the band members love knowing that their merchandise is selling. plus all the tohers people around you will know exactly who you are there to see.

I find it funny that someone would feel their 'expertise' in concert going necessitated writing 10 steps to concert enjoyment. The only "tip" not mentioned there that's equally obvious is if it's GA and you want to be up close, get up close early and don't move.
I'm honestly not sure WHO this list is for. Maybe people who have heard of but never heard nickleback and creed?
Sadly some people out there have never been to a show or concert.. and have no clue. Couple years back I dragged a 22 yo friend to her first show ever. Started her off right, Dropkick Murphys w/ the Horror Pops.

if you suddenly find yourself standing in an open area..move as quickly as you can towards the edge of the open area and get a few people into the crowd away from that edge.
The temptation to put the wife up to crowd surf while at social D was almost overwhelming.
I decided not to teach her that concert lesson.

i get kicked in the head everytime someone crowd surfs.
being tall does have it's drawbacks.
i hate crowdsurfing.
I tried crowd surfing at the first show I ever went to...and promptly got thrown on the ground by a security guard.
I usually only go to shows at small to medium venues these days and have had good luck getting back to my spot if I leave it, but I don't try it often.
In addition to wearing a bands T-shirt, if you're a real fan wear one from a prior tour you saw.
If you don't have a T-shirt for the band you're going to see, wear one for the most obscure band you have.
Both are great for starting conversation with other fans and leads to making friends.

A friend and I always had good luck going to shows and ending up either right in front or on stage...once we happened to run into the guitarist from the headlining band and she was wearing a shirt with his former band's logo on it....started a great convo with him, got us autographs and a bunch of free stickers and a couple of t shirts. [thumbsup]

one of kathy's friends views it as a competition. if nobody else is wearing that bands shirt he "wins"
if someone else is wearing a more obscure band they win.
the guy is a complete music snob too. it's fun to screw with him by telling him things like "i only listen to what's ont he radio because the best stuff is always put on the radio."
