Post by: Statler on July 17, 2009, 04:36:10 PM
couldn't find an apex if it sat on his face.

and forgot to disconnect his headlight.

and needs to actually lean over.

BIGGER pics to come shortly.

Mawr pics, mawr better.   ;D

Lookin' good.  IIRC from that vid you posted a while back (superbike school), your body position was pretty good back then.  The line from your spine to your head is pretty much parallel with the centerline of the bike.  Not a lot of folks can say that and it's a great baseline to work from.  If you focus on really opening up your hips (even to the point of where it feels exaggerated) with the ball of your inner foot on the end of the inner peg, it'll help you get off the bike more while keeping your body parallel to the centerline.  And it'll help get your head down more toward the bars.  Vroom, vroom.
[thumbsup]  [moto]

P.S.  You're a bold man.  I would never have the cahones to take a bike that pimped out to the track.  I'd be so skeered of binning it.

Thanks, Spidey.

I have to figure out something for the right side, as my boot is melted pretty bad....too bad VIR is so right-sided.

I did finally just get my left knee puck scraped too this time.   Little advances at a time....(G took a big speed increase and went down).

It's so funny how you feel so exagerated and then you see pictures and it looks totally fine and normal.   I felt like a total monkey hanging off this past weekend but pics show other riders and I think they weren't off enough.

I can work on both  more corner speed and roll on faster.   I got the throttle cracked open soon but could open it harder earlier.   an instructer worked on this with me on Sunday....he took the lead and I followed through some turns....muuuuch harder throttle out of turns.   By the end of the day I was a gear higher at the end of the main straight and leaving the last corner onto the straight had to start the turn a gear higher as I bounced the rev limiter a couple times.   big speed jump.

Debated bumping up to intermediate group but passing is difficult for me so I got a weekend of practice doing it in beginner group.   lots of clear track there too.

time for track bike.

Statler,

Your upper body is 6-7-8 inches inside, that's not too bad - and I know it feels like a whole lot more ;)
Elbows are exactly where they should be - not resisting.
Maybe you could lower your upper body more?

just nice to see pics of monsters on the track on the monster forum.   ;D    practicality will eventually take over with something that would likely crash better, but I think it will allways be fun doing things on the streetbike there that I can't do on the street.     Hell, wrestling around a big tourer on the track would be a hoot.

Once again, proof that it is usually more the rider than the bike.

Chris, I am probably going to be selling my Daytona before too long.

I'll give you twelve bucks off the asking price if you send me that shirt.   ;D

the bike in the foreground here ridden by 1 buddy of mine and belonging to another buddy of mine is an ABSOLUTE BEAST!!!  a very rare and freakishly cool bike...a Superhawk 996 (dubbed the Super Chicken) heavily modified by Moriwaki Racing with lots of frame strengenthing welds and titanium hardware and Dymag carbon fiber wheels and all kinds of stuff done to it.

BTW...FWIW.... on a Monster track bike IMHO, I think less is more...my old 900 Monster with the CC rearsets and sorted out suspension gives me the allowances to be able to use more of the motor and get more and more out of the bike helping me learn more and work a lil harder....all depends on you though...

Dudes, Monsters rock on the track. You've just got to set them up right.  [thumbsup] So yes, it can be the right tool for the job. My job is to win races and my Monster has taken me to several class championships. It may be going bigger next season to beat up on SVs...anyone got a 900 motor to get rid of? [evil]

I can tell by the fence in the backround that you are in 5 there....good body position!

the Milona I am betting was Courtney's....he picked it up recently and it is a SUUUHHWEEET machine!

I don't know if you remember my comments after I rode your RS, but the big one was that you don't have any room for your heal on the right side when you try to turn your foot out.

The pipes are in the way.

So. . . underbike exhaust or do what I said you should do back then.

Get a 675 ;D

and yes, it is tons of fun statler.

laura's husband rides his road star on the track. it tops out at around 100 and leaves white lines in turns, but it's freaking great seeing it out there.

time for track bike.

Chris are you at all interested in going fast on a slow bike?   I'll be having a track bike/race bike 800SS ready for sale in a couple of weeks.  Can set it up in any configuration from entry level (3-spoke Brembos, non-adjustable oem Showa front fork, oem shock/spring, oem rearsets, etc) to AMA Proo Moto_ST (GT this year) spec (with 5-spoke Marchensinis, full floating EBC rotors, race prepped 1000SS fork, Ohlins shock/spring, CFM/Woodcraft clip-ons, rearsets, steering damper, full custom 2-1 race exhaust, etc).   Either version would have DucPond dry clutch conversion included.

Let me know if you're interested!

indeed.. lots of goodies in the funnerer version, but you absolutely do not want a track bike with non-adjustable forks.  or stock shock, 95% of the time.
