Title: Flossie the robot
Post by: Rufus120 on July 20, 2009, 09:15:00 AM
This puppy is making the blog rounds this morning.  Figured I'd put it up here.

In their quest to develop the finest motorcycle engine oils, Castrol have recruited a new test rider â€" Flossie, the robot. 'He is invaluable in tests which support our core product benefits such as increased power or increased acceleration,' say Castrol.

Flossie (who isn't related to a certain Rossi, as far as we know…) can test any scooter or motorcycle and has a 'self learning' mode that allows it to learn a bike's gear change pattern, clutch feel and throttle response etc.

Castrol claim that Flossie is the ultimate precision rider who never gets tired, isn't troubled by engine noise at 16,000rpm, doesn't mind riding in extreme cold or heat… and doesn't even crave a cold beer and a hamburger after a hard session of testing. And isn't that just brilliant…

I dunno... Flossie looks a little ham fisted on the throttle...

That's an interesting take on doing that sort of testing.  Computer controlled rigs have been around for a long time, but not quite like that.

Flossie isnt wearing a helmet or leathers hence she is not a safe rider.

you know how much it is to weld metal from your ass onto your leg costs these days? Flossie better have good robo insurance.

Pedrobot v.01

Flossie is Pedrobot, they just took the leathers off for the video, when we are not looking, they'll put the leathers back on, prop it back up on a Honda,  get a 4 year old to paint on a face and send him off to the next round of MotoGP.
