Title: dumb exhaust question
Post by: crashoverridem629 on July 20, 2009, 05:09:23 PM
ok got new header to midpipe gaskets sooo ummm they go with the point of the v to the header and v part twards the udder right?  [bang] been a busy week forgot which way they go. any tips or trick to getting them back together or do u just have to cram it together ? which side should the gasket go on first the header or the midpipe? i wann make sure and do this right the first time don't want to jack up any gaskets and wait for new ones to come in thanks guys

The gasket is a solid single piece.  new it would be white, on your bike it will blackish white.
Was the udder damaged?
To put a new one in, or pull this on out, you will need to pull the mid-pipe and loosen the the bolts that hold the header to the engine.

udder doesn't look damaged just moved things a bit. the mesh gasket broke and slid up the header pipe. i caught it immediately lol exhaust got alot louder. guess i just need to order a new gasket then. do i need anything other than just the gasket ?

Nope all you need is the gasket  [thumbsup]

You could probably just bend the gasket back into shape if its misshapen and reposition. I once bought new mesh gaskets and wondered why after. They're just brass mesh. I find it hard to believe that there is a critical airtight seal at work there. Or you could think about full Arrows (do they slip-fit or clamp?).

I tested my exhaust without them when I removed the udder and was surprised that they did perform a function.  I could feel the gases leaking out the joints.
