Does anyone know if they have a US version of the DVD? I cant seem to find a clear answer and I dont want to drop $40 on a dvd that wont work for me? I heard rumor that It was to air in July 2008 so I wasnt sure if that pushed back and actual US DVD release? Any info?
Yes. I got a copy almost a year ago.
Only place I could find it was their store:
http://www.longwayround.com/lwd/html/lwd_shop_dvm.html
Still waiting for an NTSC version of Race to Dakar.
Thanks! I was looking on amazon and it was crazy confusing on what they had. I will get it from them.
I got the whole thing from a torrent site. Someone posted up the BBC broadcast versions sans commercials.
What do you guys that have seen it think? I have the original and love it. Is it as good?
How about Netflix? Have they got it yet?
I imagine encounters with rhinos and lions. Visits with some of the poorest people on earth, talk of aids.

They didn't even finish riding until last August and the first episode didn't air until the end of October! They sent members of their mailing list an email about DVD availability in November.
Are you sure you're not thinking of Long Way 'Round?

It really is done. I can confirm it, as I have seen it.
I liked it more than Long Way 'Round.

Really? Long Way Down was good, Long Way Round was for me, a little better. IMHO, of course. ;)

I don't doubt that in the slightest, as it's clearly on sale on the website and, as I said, has been since last November.
The part I wondered about was how Bick got a copy almost a year ago, since they only finished riding 8 months ago and the DVD has only been available publicly for 6 months.

I liked it more only for the reason that of the two trips, i would have loved to do Long Way Down myself. Long Way Around, not so much.
Long Way Round has a too many gapping holes in the journies narritive. Long Way Down was a shorter trip, but since it had the same number of episodes the narritive was tighter. I didnt get the sense that they skipped over stuff like the did in LWR.

If you really want to fill in the gaps read the book, Long Way Round was an absolutely great read. I actually went to the book store the other night asking about the Long Way Down book and they told me not till late July if not August.
My most sincere apologies for misleading anyone.
I went back through old e-mails and found the delivery confirmation. I did recieve Long Way Down on December 5. It was warm, and I was riding around that time I was watching it, so I thought it may have been earlier in the year. 6 months - a year... Both a long time ago. Really not relevent.
It is an awesome series, and well worth owning.
Okay, dudes, with the above strong recommendations I'll have to order a copy. LWR was one of 2 major reasons that I got into
adventure tour riding. The other was running into many dual sport riders on an AlCan trip. It made me realize that I was missing out
on some great riding.
This weekend the wife and I will be doing our own mini Long Way ride. We will be riding from Anchorage to Nebesna, in the heart of the Wrangle St Elias National Park. We are amped about the trip.
I also hear Race to Dakar with Charlie Boorman is good, but he was not nec. my favorite but grew on me.
