Title: Led tail light problem
Post by: slipperymike on July 22, 2009, 12:18:25 PM
Hi there. New to the forums. I bought a 2005 s2r a couple weeks ago. I've developed a small (but significant) issue. The bike has an LED tail light kit. Just recently I discovered the brake light doesn't come on. I traced it down to the fuse which was blown. I replaced the fuse and it blows as soon as I touch the brake. I tried replacing the 10A fuse with a 20A to see if that would work. That didn't really solve the problem at all. The brake light would stay on and when I would hit the brake it would shut the light off completely. After about 5 pulls on the brake I blew the 20A fuse. Is my brake light wired backwards?

Any advice would be appreciated greatly. Thanks.

make sure its properly grounded. then start to trace the harness with a multimeter

same thing happened to me, i had a faulty connection allllll the way up by the steering head.

easiest way to make sure you are starting with working parts is to take 2 peices of wire, rip the wires out of the brake light switch on your brake lever

and then hardwire the switch to the taillight by itself. once that works, you know you have an electrical gremlin in the harness and its just a matter of tracking it down.
sounds like it became ungrounded, or you have a fraying wire harness somewhere and you have some wires touching each other possibly

good luck!

Thanks for the help. I figured it out!!!. The two connectors coming from the taillight were shorting due to a diy blinker mount. It's always the stupid small stuff. Went through two boxes of fuses trying to figure this out. Felt ridiculous after I found the short. Thanks again!!!!
