Hey Folks,
I could have sworn there was a thread for this already and I tried searching it out but couldn't find anything. I just got a nail in my rear tire and I need to get a new one. Very frustrating as I only have 2k miles on these. Oh well, I live in AZ and there is contruction everywhere, bound to happen from time to time.
My question is twofold. 1) Since I am only replacing the rear, is there any benefit in getting the same kind as I already had so that it matches up with the front or does it not really matter?
2) Without going over the top price wise, what are some good tires for a good price? I mostly do city riding in high temps so I need something that is going to give good treadlife but I don't want to sacrifice too much performance for when I do go up into the mountains. So I am thinking sport touring would be best. Let me know. Thanks!!
I won't go off into question #2 because it will lead to a 30 page thread! [laugh] I do think if the front tire is good, with plenty of tire life left you should get another matching rear. That's what I would do. I'm sure this will also get the post count rolling on this but I am not a big fan of mixing and matching brands and tire models. I am sure that some folks have had awesome results with brand X front tire and brand Y rear but I haven't. That's what my 45 years of riding experience says. I could be right or wrong... let the posts fly! [thumbsup]
Are you related to IZ?
I always stick with the same brand, but I do mix models within the brand, I currently have a Bridgestone BT016 Hypersport on the front, and a Bridgestone BT021 Touring/Sport Tyre on the rear, I commute every day and the rear Tyre is wearing very well.
As is normal on these bikes the rear will generally wear out much faster than the front. And I get superb grip from both (more than I'll ever need) and I love to riding in the mountains every Sunday, and no grip problems so far [thumbsup]
i wouldnt worry too much about mixing.
get a stiffer rear than the front.
i have a dragon supercorsa on the front and a regular ol diablo on the rear.
back will break loose from time to time but i know when it does, the front isnt even close to going.
perfect.
I've mixed 'em before on my Duc had no issues.
I've always wondered about a hypersport in the front with a sport in the back: do you notice a difference in warm-up time between front and rear? A hyper-sport needs more forces working on it to warm up properply.
Not that I've ever noticed, But before I reach my Favorite Mountain range I have a 20KM ride to get there, so the Tyre's are nice and warm before I get there, mind you I'm about to move closer to the Mountain, So I might have to take it easy until the Tyre's are nice and hot.
But I've never had a problem with tyre slip, even in the middle of winter.
