Title: tropical gear Post by: hihhs on July 24, 2009, 09:50:54 PM Hey,
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for riding pants. I've got a perf leather jacket that is very comfortable, but jeans offer no real protection. I wondered what other Hawaii riders are wearing. Thanks, Title: Re: tropical gear Post by: eltristo on July 24, 2009, 10:04:30 PM I'd recommend checking out this thread from a couple of months ago.

I guess my question is perf versus textile and maybe a brand reccomendation. Whatever I get I gotta order online, and I am sick of paying the shipping on returns.
I've spent about an hour online and still no clue. Title: Re: tropical gear Post by: teddy037.2 on July 25, 2009, 07:30:17 AM I have tex pants and a pair of draggin' jeans.
normal jeans-crap draggin'- feels better, and with armor, still good airflow while feeling substantial tex (dainese drake)-MUCH more confidence inspiring, makes the draggin' feel like I got nothing on, but they are hotter went from tex/leather jacket to perf leather jacket, and it's great. almost makes me think perf leather pants would work in HI... if you can get over looking weird since it isn't much of a gear culture here among the riders I got dainese because we were at D-store and I needed new shit anyway. and the euro sizing makes it easier to find something that I fit. most of the S/M/L stuff I've tried had me sammiched right between S and M Title: Re: tropical gear Post by: hihhs on July 25, 2009, 07:56:46 AM I have tex pants and a pair of draggin' jeans. normal jeans-crap draggin'- feels better, and with armor, still good airflow while feeling substantial tex (dainese drake)-MUCH more confidence inspiring, makes the draggin' feel like I got nothing on, but they are hotter went from tex/leather jacket to perf leather jacket, and it's great. almost makes me think perf leather pants would work in HI... if you can get over looking weird since it isn't much of a gear culture here among the riders I got dainese because we were at D-store and I needed new shit anyway. and the euro sizing makes it easier to find something that I fit. most of the S/M/L stuff I've tried had me sammiched right between S and M Thanks very much for the reply. That is exactly what I needed. Yeah perf leather pants would be a little much here. I think I'll order a pair of the Dainese textiles. Speaking of clothes, there was an older thread where you mentioned tshirts. Did you ever get those? Title: Re: tropical gear Post by: eltristo on July 25, 2009, 08:17:39 AM I have the venty version of the same Dainese pants, and they are still warm if you are going slow or stopped, but fine at speed. Really it comes down to your build, cause almost everybody makes a decent perf product, it's just a matter of fit. I'm, umm, narrow, so the euro stuff fits me better. Bigger guys tend to do well with the US mainstays like Icon, Joe Rocket, and Alpinestar, which isn't US, but fits bigger.

that big labor day ride that goes on over there... cruise-fest, but i've always wanted to do it. and superferry woulda made it so dang easy :'( Title: Re: tropical gear Post by: hihhs on July 26, 2009, 04:53:15 PM yeah it's all guys on HDs wearing black leather vests. (http://www.picpiggy.com/smile/indifferent/indifferent0022.gif) (http://www.picpiggy.com)
I'm over on Oahu every now & then. I was there last Wednesday. I always wish I had the bike with me. A nice cruise to the North Shore would be sweet. Title: Re: tropical gear Post by: DRKWNG on July 27, 2009, 06:17:36 AM I'm over on Oahu every now & then. I was there last Wednesday. I always wish I had the bike with me. A nice cruise to the North Shore would be sweet. You should do it! Good excuse to through a BBQ. But wait, that would mean I would have to mow the yard. :-\ I knew I should have gotten a herd of goats instead of that damned dog! Title: Re: tropical gear Post by: hihhs on July 27, 2009, 06:48:04 AM Young Brother is a GIANT PITA!
It's just too much trouble. Title: Re: tropical gear Post by: teddy037.2 on July 27, 2009, 06:50:31 AM Young Brother is a GIANT PITA! It's just too much trouble. that's why superferry makes me sad Title: Re: tropical gear Post by: hihhs on July 27, 2009, 07:01:52 AM Ah, another early riser. [coffee]
The super ferry would have been awesome. I'm baffled as to why people protested against it. And why it went out of business. Title: Re: tropical gear Post by: teddy037.2 on July 27, 2009, 07:09:15 AM well, like alot of other things, the economic downturn reared it's head...
but the protesters can suck it. they pissed me off. I was waiting for the second boat/big island service, so I could plan my road trip Title: Re: tropical gear Post by: hihhs on July 27, 2009, 07:15:08 AM I never could figure out how the Big Island route would work. It has got to be 150 miles or so from Honolulu to Kawaihae (big island port). Even if the ferry could do 30 knots (crazy fast) that's still 5 hours. I think you'd see a lot of [puke]
Title: Re: tropical gear Post by: teddy037.2 on July 27, 2009, 07:23:10 AM yeah, maui-BI would make more sense from a time standpoint, but using oahu as the hub is probably the most sensible.
meds and a nap would take care of the sickness... I'd still be happy to do that in order to have my bike with me instead of ship the bike/fly there Title: Re: tropical gear Post by: teddy037.2 on July 27, 2009, 07:27:28 AM well, time to start work, have a good one, mang

May the streets flow with the blood of the superferry protestors... Title: Re: tropical gear Post by: hihhs on July 27, 2009, 08:12:22 PM I generally hate protestors, no matter what they are protesting.
