Title: 7,500 mile warranty check-up=$ 800.00 ???
Post by: DucRS on July 26, 2009, 11:01:23 AM
Stopped by the dealer yesterday and asked about my next required service to keep warranty issues up to date and he said I was due about 500 miles ago. I'm at about 8K. So, as I proceeded to make an appointment, I asked "how much is it going to cost"? and he said $768.00 +tax. I thought but did not say out loud  WTF!!!! So I held back on appointment till I get a bit more info. He did give me a long list of things they were going to do like : check air, fluids, chain, loose bolts, plugs ect......  Well, what do you guys think?

Does this sound reasonable? Is it negotiable?

2valve or 4?

I would hope they are going to adjust valves, and if the bike is two years old the belts are included.

Well, if you've got an itemized list, I'd liek to see it.  It's hard to say that's not a fair price, if it includes everything from servicing your flux capacitor to re-tensioning your power band.  So let's see that list... (does that price include parts/consumables like oil or not?)

It's negotiable at least in the fact that you don't have to have them do every thing on that laundry list.  I'm sure there's items on there that you can take care of quite well by yourself.

My 4V included belts, valve adjustment, throttle body sync, CO adjustment, and all the other usual maintenance items.  I am not comfortable doing the first 4 items so I went with it.

This is the list. As you see most items are to check not to replace:

oil and filter,valve clearance,timing belts,plugs,coolant,fuel filter,throttle body sync,air cleaner,brake clutch fluid,flexable cables,tire wear and press,steering play,chain adjust,brake pad wear,wheel hub bearings,rear wheel cush drive,torque nuts and bolts,battery,lube,suspension,test ride [evil],check codes.
2008 S4RS
Thanx

Yeah, like ducpainter said, that should be to adjust the valves and replace the belts... If not, that price is pretty high...

Seeing as it's a 4V the price isn't a ripoff if they're checking all that stuff and they don't charge extra to make adjustments or lube as necessary...including valves.

You should specifically ask if there will be additional charges for valve shims.

It should include a new fuel filter as you can't check it and it should be replaced every 7500 mi.

Back when I had my 04 S4R the 6k service (2006) was $750. And no, that didn't include the 120 they wanted to charge for belts.

That sounds reasonable, provided that it includes adjusting the valves if they need it. I'd bet that any parts (i.e. shims, belts, etc) would be extra though.

Is the 4v really that much more difficult to adjust the valves on?  My 2V svc with belts and oil was $450, which I thought was reasonable, but $800?  Seems high.  Maybe I have a reasonable shop :).

4 valvers are miserable in millions of ways. Seriously-much much worse than a two valver.

Sounds about right to me.  I had my 7500 mile service done for $800 flat.  This included everything except the cost of belts, which in my case needed no replacement.

My local dealer quoted me $1100 + shims
