Title: I accomplished my first solo crash today Post by: amcloud on July 26, 2009, 01:49:39 PM First and foremost, I am just fine. My legs are bruised to hell, but my gear did its job. I went to the hospital just to me sure I was all right. They X-Rayed my legs and had me out in a 2 hours with some pain killers and muscle relaxers. Lu, I feel your pain right now. haha. I hope you are doing better and enjoying that 695.
BastardHK, myself, and a couple of others were out for a ride through the national forest and having a great time. We made a first run through one of the few good roads around here and everything felt great. I made a few mental notes on the first run of debris in the left lane, so when we came back through we could make sure to dodge it appropriately. I just forgot about some dirt clumps and of course my line through a blind corner steered me right into them. I was running way too hot to correct my line so I just maintained throttle and rolled through. This is where I lost my front end and prepared for a low side...except it decided to catch right at the edge of the road, and we all know what was to follow. I highsided doing ~50. On the bright side though, me and the bike both landed in a ditch full of mud. Looked as if some of the local country boys had been mudding in the ditch and created a nice soft landing for me. Unfortunately, whenever they pulled out of the ditch they left some dirt clumps on the road...what can you do though. I learned to never get so wrapped up in the ride that you forget about hidden dangers such as road debris. As for the bike, it fared very well, there seemed to be very little damage, until BastardHK pointed out a small dent in the frame where the fork hit it. Insurance hasn't come to look yet, but I imagine it's totaled. On the bright side, that means its time to shop for a new toy. I suspect I have about a week of being sore and then I'll be back on my feet, good as new. I just can't wait to get on a bike again. Also glad to hear you're already thinking about the next ride [thumbsup] I'm thinking another 1100S, a triumph speed triple, or a base model streetfighter. Time will only tell. Title: Re: I accomplished my first solo crash today Post by: El Matador on July 26, 2009, 07:07:39 PM Damn dude, that sucks, but I am glad to hear that you're ok. Lu says that the best thing is to keep thinking about what you're gonna get next and a lot of oral.
As for the bike, you might be able to buy it back dirt cheap and make a nice little track bike out of it. [thumbsup] Title: Re: I accomplished my first solo crash today Post by: Howie on July 26, 2009, 07:09:20 PM Glad you are OK and [thumbsup] [drink] for going to the doctor like dumbass me probably wouldn't have :P

Then again you might not have been in the ditch to begin with if the mud wasn't on the road...........
It's kind of like on of those if a tree falls in the woods things...... :-\ Title: Re: I accomplished my first solo crash today Post by: Jarvicious on July 26, 2009, 08:23:30 PM Geeeez. My fam was in town for the weekend so I missed the ride this morning, but my buddy lost his Busa trying to get around a cage that came over the line. You're lucky it's just a bruised leg and a dented frame. Glad to hear it.

Title: Re: I accomplished my first solo crash today Post by: billruiz on July 27, 2009, 03:02:04 AM Ouch! Glad you're okay. Your experience reminded me of a solo ride where I had made a mental note of sand in a corner. On my return I kept thinking, "Okay, here's comes the sandy corner", but after about the 20th corner I thought I had passed it....then it arrived. It was a right hander and I kept the power on, but when the wheel regained traction, it snapped back and I got a great look at my front fender. I managed to hold on, mashed my privates when landed back on the seat, but I ended up crossing the double yellow....good thing no cars were coming. I got it stopped before going down the canyon. Good thing you had riding buddies!
Title: Re: I accomplished my first solo crash today Post by: AlbieS4 on July 27, 2009, 03:24:57 AM oh christ mate not another one. i have to admit i came off mine just 8 days ago on the way to get termi ecu fitted. i got caught out in filtering when cars stopped suddenly and i grabbed a handfull of radial calipers on my 1100s. it went under and i went off at no more than 10mph.
the result. bike is ok and back with me. damage was gear lever and scraped r&g bungs. me :-well lid to throw away agv gp pro big chip in side. broken left collar bone in 2 places broken/fractured shoulder blade. off for minimum 4 weeks. acheing still and little sleep in arm chair. another ukmoc guy (soldier ) just broke his yesterday on mountain bike too. i hope your bike gets sorted quick. i just have to wait and rest through all our summer. :'( Title: Re: I accomplished my first solo crash today Post by: Raux on July 27, 2009, 08:26:45 AM woah, sorry didn't see this thread. glad you faired well as me. just soreness. love those pain pills though [thumbsup]
