Title: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: Raux on July 27, 2009, 08:38:18 AM IF my bike is totalled... :( I'm hard pressed to replace her with another 696.
The 2 up riding was not so great, well the wife thought that Was a bit anemic on autobahn... top end and acceleration as compared to other bikes And always seemed to need mods [evil] so i'm starting to think options. HM, limited range (yes i know about tank mod) and not so comfortable for 2 up SF, yeah, probably tooo much, they need an SF848 M1100, same issues as M696 with more power MS, ugly (but seen a great streetfighter modded one). takes care of 2-up and power issues, but back to the modding to make it more me. SC, interesting and the touring model seems like an idea, but unsure about how the touring model handles. 848, yeah right...... but maybe i'm sure everyone is asking... what about other makes... well BMW has some interesting bikes, and saw a great Motto Guzzi that stopped at my wreck. Don't like the Japanese bikes. Triumph 675... hmmm but not a tourer or 2up HELP! Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: swampduc on July 27, 2009, 08:45:12 AM Been looking at a Triumph Sprint ST myself, but that might be a lot to step up to directly from a 696.
Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: Triple J on July 27, 2009, 08:51:58 AM Just start saving and wait for the Strada Aperta (or whatever they're gonna call it). Presumably a SBK motor, in a comfy set-up (both for you and your wife).
Regarding your choices though...if you're concerned about 2-up comfort then forget about the 848, SC, or MTS streetfighter. The 675 is likely more comfortable all around than an 848...if you're looking SBK. I'd guess the Hyper is decent for 2-up since seating is similar to the MTS. Wind proection probably sucks though (like it does on a MTS streetfighter). Like you said, Hyper range sucks, so Chris' larger tank is a must. If you don't want to spend the Strada Aperta $$...how about a used ST4/Sprint ST/etc? Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: Raux on July 27, 2009, 09:35:31 AM There is a Triumph Tiger SE ... anyone have any feedback on it? sure wish the MS looked as good in the front
Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: ArguZ on July 27, 2009, 10:35:00 AM Do you have time to wait for the new Strada ?
Is the insurance helping you with it ? The wife would definitly love that one. And I still wonder why they dropped the STs.... Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: Raux on July 27, 2009, 10:39:27 AM well if i wait for the bike, she may take the insurance money and get her a BMW 128i [bang]
Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: Triple J on July 27, 2009, 10:50:37 AM There is a Triumph Tiger SE ... anyone have any feedback on it? sure wish the MS looked as good in the front Nice bike with a great motor. Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: amcloud on July 27, 2009, 10:52:25 AM What about the triumph speed triple? I am considering it. I hate the stock exhaust, but arrow makes a 3 into 1 system that looks sweet and sheds 20lbs off the bike.
Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: Raux on July 27, 2009, 11:00:45 AM it's tough for me to go other than Ducati. I love Italian, German and British machines. but Ducati and Lamborghini are my passions. I have had a Triumph car... sooo that may be a possibility.
I really wish i could find out more about that new MTS or SA or whatever it is. seems like i've seen rumors of two different bikes. the MTS replacement using the larger 1100 motor bumped to 1198 and a watercooled ST replacement. Ducati just keeps going up and up in pricing though. there used to be a few bikes below 10k but now only 1. I personally think that's a mistake for Ducati, and especially for me :( Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: hbliam on July 27, 2009, 11:19:48 AM HM, limited range (yes i know about tank mod) and not so comfortable for 2 up Huh? About the same as the Multi (I've owned both) and more comfortable 2 up then any other bike you have listed. I do think the defender of all things 696 being so quick to jump ship when the opportunity strikes is pretty funny. Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: Raux on July 27, 2009, 11:28:30 AM Huh? About the same as the Multi (I've owned both) and more comfortable 2 up then any other bike you have listed. ahhh yes.. .waited for that one... i love my 696. and honestly would have never replaced it. BUT with the opportunity, more power and more 2-up comfort are things to think about.I do think the defender of all things 696 being so quick to jump ship when the opportunity strikes is pretty funny. the power thing... maybe a bit ego, i got smashed the other day on the autobahn, but gearing made a difference (i was running the 14t) the 2up thing is a wife complaint. BUT with the right equipment could be alleviated... hard case with backrest, but thanks for the feedback on the 2up of the HM I originally had been offered a killer deal on a HM, but she didn't like the feel sitting on the back. wierd how that worked out but after a 2000km trip.. i think most Ducati other than the MTS or ST would have been not to her liking. so, in the end.. i can dream... will i probably replace the 696 with a 696.. yes for several reasons... cash, parts, and desire. do i need the power of the 1100 motor in any form MTS, HM, M1100 ... no.. want.. maybe do i need to upgrade to a more tourer... maybe but not necessarily... but would make the wife happier. to be continued.. or i could have a hidden head injury [bang] Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: Norm on July 27, 2009, 07:56:07 PM Problem with the 848 is that it ain't got no grunt (torque). Try a Guzzi before you make up your mind.
Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: DRKWNG on July 27, 2009, 09:57:24 PM The 675 is likely more comfortable all around than an 848...if you're looking SBK. After spending a fair amount of time on both models I would have to disagree. I personally find the 848 a good deal more comfortable than my Daytona. But having said that, the 848 is no where near as comfy as the 999. Maybe look into a good lightly used one of those? I've never ridden a 675, only sat on one. I did own an 848 for a while though. The 675 is one uncomfortable mutha if the 848 is a good deal more comfortable! The 675 is one uncomfortable mutha if the 848 is a good deal more comfortable! [laugh] The Daytona takes some time to get used to, that's for sure. It sits REALLY high and has very aggressive geometry. It feels good once you get it diving into the turns, but doesn't feel as natural to ride as an 848. Or my SC now that I have it modded out the way I do now. Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: roy-nexus-6 on July 28, 2009, 12:36:35 PM How about getting two reasonably priced bikes.
1. 696 for you 2. Something comfortable for your wife. I ride two up with my wife all the time, but without an intercom, conversations are impossible: all the talking happens when we stop for food/coffee. And passenger comfort is of secondary importance to a lot of road bike manufacturers, so if you aren't interested in a Sports Tourer package, then finding a comfortable bike for 2up riding might be difficult. Good luck! [thumbsup] Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: Norm on July 28, 2009, 01:03:51 PM WHO is that girl in your bottom left photo? She's making me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: causeofkaos on July 28, 2009, 02:10:04 PM after reading the original post about the wreck and wife seeing it and not liking it, will she let you get another one?
my wife tried to stop me, but i still limped into the dealership after she gave me a ride and bought the next one. Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: Raux on July 28, 2009, 09:01:35 PM after reading the original post about the wreck and wife seeing it and not liking it, will she let you get another one? yeah was at the dealer yesterday and tried to get her opinion on the GT1000 Black with white stripe... she said don't ask her...my wife tried to stop me, but i still limped into the dealership after she gave me a ride and bought the next one. may be a hard sale, but it's in my DNA so somehow i gotta have a bike. Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: tristantumble on July 29, 2009, 02:48:41 AM yeah was at the dealer yesterday and tried to get her opinion on the GT1000 Black with white stripe... good call on checking out the GT. still a ducati, still naked, and more comfortable for your wife. Hope you go with it. Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: ArguZ on July 29, 2009, 04:13:04 AM And a used ST4s is not up for discussion ?
Sporty, great for too, good luggage options, and a thrill to ride Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: DRKWNG on July 29, 2009, 06:15:25 AM +1 to this idea! I have been eyeing every ST (don't care if it's a 2, 3 or 4) that I see go up for sale. I would really like to have one of these...
Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: Raux on July 29, 2009, 09:08:55 AM well the idea of a used bike replacement came up just tonight in fact. so yes an ST is a viable option.
I will start searching the classified section online tonight. Definitely will be a Ducati. So options are... ST MTS SS SBK M SC not in that order of course any i missed? how about this? http://www.motoscout24.de/Public/Detail.aspx?id=btgdgkwgki (http://www.motoscout24.de/Public/Detail.aspx?id=btgdgkwgki) Title: Re: Hmmm should i be thinking the worst Post by: redxblack on July 29, 2009, 10:30:42 AM I really want a GT 1000. That's going to be my next bike.
