Title: cutting cans....have a ? Post by: 4DoorSi on July 27, 2009, 11:41:57 AM Ok, so I have an extra set of stock exhaust cans that I plan on cutting down in length. I'll probably cut them in half or maybe even all the way down to a third.
The question I have is this. I would like to cut off the bottom half, or the half closer to the engine so that I can keep the "Ducati" imprinted part of the can. The only problem I see with that is the part on the bottom that is "dented" in, I'm assuming for ground clearance. So, how can I cut off the bottom part and make the top part conform to that "dented" part? Can I just pound the sleeve down? Title: Re: cutting cans....have a ? I ended up painting it as well. I have seen people anodize them as well.

cut 'em down and see [thumbsup] if it were me, and I couldn't bang the tube in to match, i'd just ride it and let it wear in naturally Title: Re: cutting cans....have a ? Post by: 4DoorSi on July 28, 2009, 04:43:22 AM well I doubt I will "wear them in naturally".... I'm not a knee down kind of guy.
I think I'll give it a shot and see how it comes out. If it doesn't look too great, oh well, I'm only out $40 for the pair of cans, and $5 for the blade to cut them. Oh wait, do the heel guard cover that spot? I got some of them too for once the cans are cut. Title: Re: cutting cans....have a ? *i'm far from a knee-down rider as well, but one of the issues w/the stock cans are that they limit ground clearance. i'd imagine that if you didn't dent them in, it would obviously reduce clearance |
