Title: Cush Drive removal on SSS Bikes
Post by: EEL on July 27, 2009, 12:46:07 PM
So I've got a new afam carrier that I need to install w/ a 42T sprocket. I did some research and found that no one had answered the following questions

1) Once you get the cush drive bolts loosened, Do you need to press the existing cush drives out or do they just slide out easily.

2) Conversely, do they need to be pressed in?

I dont know anyone who has actually done this themselves. I've seen Chris' video at ducatitech but that doesnt show cush drive removal, just a new sprocket install on an existing carrier

And yes...I have access to a vice to loosen/thighten the bolts..

The SSS cush drives are a loose fit in the sprockets, at least the ones I've worked on.

You just need an allen wrench/driver for the back side, and the socket for the nut.

Whew..thats makes my life a lot easier. I remember the ones in the dss monsters (in the wheel) felt like they were glued on.

Well, a press fit plus corrosion will usually hold things in pretty securely.  [laugh]

Corrected ;D

Thanks for the help guys. This should be an easy swap out now that I know its not pressed in.

Wanted to double check the torque specs on the cush drive nuts.

Can someone give me a value?

Nevermind, done!

its 48NM for the cush drives. most were loose but one needed a little arm strength to remove. All in all. it only took about 25 mins to get it done.

Thanks for the help guys.
