"'The first car I saw when my sight was restored was a Smart car and I couldn't stop laughing - I'd never seen one before and I thought it had been chopped in half."

Good story.

I also saw this story on the side..

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1202752/Brad-Pitt-adds-motorbike-collection--metal-seat-comfortable.html (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1202752/Brad-Pitt-adds-motorbike-collection--metal-seat-comfortable.html)

Brad Pitt's collection of motorbikes..including a Desmosedici and..

a Monster 696?!

REALLY?!     A 696??  Maybe the 1100 but I would doubt a 696.

Sounds basically like a keratoprosthesis, which is a type of implant we've been using for a couple of decades. However, the autograft of tooth enamel reduces rejection rates as the article states. I've seen some long-term keratoprostheses be relatively successful, but I don't believe this exact procedure is being used in the States. It helps in a case where the reason the person can't see is do to corneal and iris damage. In other words, the retina and optic nerve, as well as the visual pathways in the brain, would have to be intact.

AWESOME story about the eye.

The Pitt thing makes me laugh a bit.  100K custom bike on a $500 landscape utility trailer :D

Yeah, I'm an ophthalmologist, or, as my friends from med school call me, an "eye dentist."  ;D
