Title: New Tyres Pretty pictures Post by: mattyvas on July 28, 2009, 09:39:23 PM Got some new shoes on the bike today.
Bought myself a set of track day specials from MCAS. Spent the morning out doing a bit of scrubbing before the ride on the weekend and just happened to have my trusty G7 on me so I snapped a few pics under the fantastic blue sky. Be interested to see how they compare to your old PPs over time (both on the road and on the track...) [roll] Title: Re: New Tyres Pretty pictures Post by: mattyvas on July 29, 2009, 12:54:34 AM can't really say as yet Bazz.

[roll] I think they will be in there element on the track Big T, after all that's where they were developed. To put it into perspective on the S4rs fitted with the same tires I was doing 1:48, now on the Desmo fitted with an Ntech front slick and a GP racer slicks on the rear I'm doing just under 1:43 .Taking into account the bike I am on right now that saying something about the ability of the Tires and the S4rs [thumbsup] Title: Re: New Tyres Pretty pictures Post by: Six95 on July 29, 2009, 03:12:41 AM can't really say as yet Bazz. You're gonna have a blast carving up those Putty twisites Title: Re: New Tyres Pretty pictures Post by: mattyvas on August 08, 2009, 06:04:18 PM Okay after two weekends out on the Pirelli Super Corsa Pro's I can say this.
They are FARKING Awesome. They are so different to Pilot Power's in the way they behave and grip. PP once scrubbed in well and with some track use the edge grip feels a little like jelly, not to say that is doesn't grip more so that you can feel the movement of the tyre on lean angle. The tread blocks feel like they are reaching into the surface to grip the road. Thus far on the SCP's the edge grip is phenominal, the speed of turn in is amazing. I feel like I have my hands on the front axle directly turning and contacting the road. There is some much lean angle to be had you feel like you could get so far over that you'd fall off the bike before the bike falls over. It is true that the shoulder is all rubber (no grooves) compared to PP. And of course this is what gives such a feeling of edge grip and lean angle. That said I don't think they would be a great rain tyre as this lack of grooved surface would not inspire any confidence. I am going to book a track day in another couple of weekends, I'll let you know after that what they feel like on the track. But I can imagine they are going to be wicked having already felt they are brilliant on the road. cheers Matty... Title: Re: New Tyres Pretty pictures Post by: goldFiSh on August 09, 2009, 06:49:54 PM Thanks Matty,
I think that the lack of grooves on the side of the tyre will be a hige contributor to the feeling whilst leant over - as you said they are basically soft compound slicks Having said that, after looking at them on your bike, I'd be a more than a little cautious about wet weather riding - and probably over cautious..... it'd be interesting to know just how much of the tyre you use when in the wet, and I'm guessing that Pirelli already know that and have based the grooves to suit. Still, it would be hard to remove the mental image of theim being as slippery as ice.. It will be interesting to find out how many street kms you get out of them in comparison to the PPs, and whether you would use them for something like a PI 3000km adventure.. Title: Re: New Tyres Pretty pictures Post by: mostro900 on August 09, 2009, 09:18:04 PM Good write up Matty! They look the goods for street and more for track.
I reckon they would be great for aqua-planing in a downpour though! weather.com.au is your new best friend! [thumbsup] Title: Re: New Tyres Pretty pictures Post by: Betty on August 09, 2009, 09:23:31 PM Nah, all he needs is a track day on 'em ... then they'll have more texture on the edges than most road tyres
Title: Re: New Tyres Pretty pictures Post by: Spider on August 09, 2009, 09:52:42 PM I'm with Goldie on this one...I reckon Pirelli know what lean angles are used in the wet by street riders and stop the grooves a bit past there...
most guys don't use the edge on perfect days...let alone on wet days.....and riders can always keep her more upright and lean themselves over on the wet days to minimise lean angles and maximise tyre traction....well the good ones do! but I know nothing....Matty tell us what happens he next time it gets damp! [popcorn] Title: Re: New Tyres Pretty pictures Post by: mattyvas on August 09, 2009, 10:16:21 PM Too true all regarding wet weather, I'll be getting off to push I think.
If I get 5k out of them as a road/track set I'll be happy. PP's average about 8k I think. I don't think they'd fare really well when it comes to 3000k's riding to PI and back you'd pretty much run em flat I'd say. But then I didn't buy for a road trip, at the moment I'll be happy to get through the Spring/Summer and see if a PI trip is on the cards for next year otherwise there will be another set back on. Title: Re: New Tyres Pretty pictures Post by: Spider on August 09, 2009, 11:32:13 PM you girls aren't coming down for the Moto GP???? :'(
but I'm back on 2 wheels! Title: Re: New Tyres Pretty pictures Post by: goldFiSh on August 10, 2009, 12:26:33 AM you girls aren't coming down for the Moto GP???? :'( but I'm back on 2 wheels! Love to, but with Dory arriving late sept / early oct, I think I will be pushing it with the Bronster! In fact, she wants to come to a GP before Vale gives it in (like a lot of women, she's a big Rossi fan!) For this, I think she'll be flying and I'll be riding (if I'm lucky!) It'll be interesting to dig this thread up when you change them over to see how close you were in your guestimate. They're obviously a softer compund than the PPs, but how much, and how much will the slick edges get carnaged by our less than perfect roads..... lots of questions, time will tell! Title: Re: New Tyres Pretty pictures Post by: Spider on August 10, 2009, 01:32:27 AM fixed it for Rossi! In the light they looked very shallow and faint, but they do extend just enough. just wouldn't want to try emulating the Mole in a shower!most guys don't use the edge on perfect days...let alone on wet days.....and riders can always keep her more upright and lean themselves over on the wet days to minimise lean angles and maximise tyre traction....well the good ones do! but I know nothing....Matty tell us what happens he next time it gets damp!
