Title: chain dragging on my swing arm
Post by: Dustin1231 on May 21, 2008, 12:27:45 PM
I laid my bike over last monday. Ive riden it maybe 50 miles... if that since then. Well lastnight i started doing a check on the bike, when i noticed alot of black stuff around my front sproket. Took the cover off, and noticed that my chain was rubbing on the swing arm gaurd thingy. (the black plastic deal) My guess is that my chaing is too loose??? would that cause it? Or should i look into maybe my swing arm was bent or something more like that.

The bike is a 2001 S4, and laid it on the right side. had frame sliders and it really didnt do a lot of damage to the bike. othere then breaking the peg, and rear break.

should be pretty easy to check and see if the chain is too loose, or too tight. just give 'er a wiggle, and see if it's within spec.

when i laid down my 900, i ended up with a minor tweak in the swingarm, so that's certainly possible.

i'd give the swingarm a good rub-down to feel for any bends, or what have you, and maybe snap some pictures of the affected area to post up.

(perhaps by then somebody with real advice will come along.)

no, the front is stock... the back is one bigger.

The chain will touch the guard even with a stock sprocket.

That is why it's there.

If you have raised the rear ride height it will rub more.

If it's not wearing through I don't see an issue.

I wouldn't think pieces should be coming off.

Those pics are kind of IZ_ but from what i can see. the rubber/Plastic Gaurd on the top of the swingarm looks normal but the Tab on the bottom of the front sprocket cover, the chain shouldn't be rubbing on that. Sounds like you have too much slack in the chain.

yeah, for some dang reason when the camera auto focuses it right past the clear shot into a IZ_ one. And have no reason why

+1 on this. I was just about to reply with the same answer.
