Hi all!
Has anybody installed the DP CF Front Fender for the M696? I got it in yesterday and mounted it no problem but then took it out and noticed right away that the front forks rub up against the fender when they are compressed (Bump)...I looked and i did see that the fender is awfully close to the forks and there isnt room for adjustment...the holes on the fender allow just enough room for the bolts to go through...
Has anybody else had this issue?

i just installed mine on my S2R. i noticed it was a bit close, i had to make sure the bands that go along the fork where you attach the fender and flush and straight
.
Where did you get the fender because the one you have pictured is not the DP CF front for the 696.
It is the "Diversion style" generic fit DP CF fender
The real 696 DP CF Fender is an exact copy of the stocker and fits the same.

.
Often the multi fit parts take a little tweeking to fit just right on a particular model. If you have already tried adjusting you might need to shave the part a bit in the area that interferes with the forks. The more you mod the more you find out that "bolt on" is more of a idealization than an actual description. Definitely double check though before you start cutting into your brand new carbon fiber bits.
So wait....The DP Diversion Style CF Fender is NOT a Ducati Performance part or is it...Is it just a Ducati Perfomance Generic fit? Do they offer a different one that is a CF duplicate of the original?
.
The "Diversion Style" CF front fender from DP has been around for a while and is a "multi fit" or generic fit item from DP. It is not the specific DP CF front fender made for the M696 or M1100. That would be:
Part # 96991109B Ducati Monster 696/1100 Carbon Front Fender
And is the one pictured in my post above. It is a perfect copy of the new style stock fender in CF
.
The one you show in the 1st post is for the previous set of monsters. That's why you might be having some issues

It is a Ducati Perfomance part - though other make ones that looks the same - it's just not for the 696. The one that Spencer posted is for the 696.
[bang]
Don't get too discouraged yet. Motowheels through one on to their project 696. You might want to shoot them a PM (see sponsors section) to see how they handled the issue you are having.

Someone mentioned we should put one of these on...
Diversion Fender (http://www.motowheels.com/italian/myproducts.cfm?parentcategoryid=6%7CCarbon%20Fiber&productID=4933&showDetail=1&categoryID=24%7CDucati%20Monster%20CF&vendoridtodisplay=0&filterFor=&collection=168%7CEuropean%20Motorcycle%20Parts)

So here's the million dollar question....The DP CF Diversion Front Fender (Generic) runs for $250 and the DP CF Front Fender for the 696 (MADE FOR 696) runs for $199....Is the one made for the 696 a DP part or made by somebody else...it seems as though the one made specifically for the 696 has alot more CF than the diversion...Just a thought
On a side note, i contacted motowheels, (where i purchased it) and they said for me to get a file and bore out the holes a bit so that i can slide if forward a bit and then tighten..makes sense but i was weary about filing away at the CF...anybody want to chime in?
.
From Ducati the DP CF front fender for the 696/1100 retails for $293.65
The same style knock off (not that there is anything wrong with it) CF fender from MotoWheels is $199
Although I learned my lesson regarding "cheap" CF, it's usually cheaper for a reason

This very thin and warped POS from a major supplier was of course returned
Personally, if I paid $250 for a fender I wouldn't be taking a file to it then have to worry about it
shifting and damaging my forks. But that's just me ;D
.
So just to recap and to verify i understand correctly...
The Ducati Fender made for the 696 from motowheels for $199 is NOT A DP PART..? Correct?
The Ducati Fender DP Diversion (Generic) for ~$250 IS A DP PART? Correct?
And if i understand correctly, the Generic DP Diversion fender is NOT enough protection for the front end? I dont mind filing it down a bit as it wont destroy anything but before i go on damaging a part that i can return right now, i want to make 100% sure that it will suit my purposes well and that is NOT a CHEAP CF part...I dont ride much on gravel so i would hope it would provide enough protection on daily street rides....

You need to look at what you ordered and what was sent
Motowheels lists three CF front fenders for the 696
A non DP stock version : $209.00 Mfg. Part No.: MD-MN08-C01
a DP Diversion : $265.00 Mfg. Part No.: 96948800B
and a non DP Diversion : $249.00 Mfg. Part No.: MD-MN00-C01
As far as slider protection from the Diversion style fender, I prefer more protection from dirt, sand, bugs, rocks thrown up by cars. A chipped slider can get real expensive DAMHIK. But hey, some ride without any fender or fork protection at all. I'm more of a function over form kinda guy ;D
.
I got the DP Diversion ~$265...
Well at least its a DP part and is not a cheapo CF part...
As far as dirt and stuff, im pretty good about cleaning it....I will def have to watch out for scratches and if tey start appearing, im putting a more protective one on for sure..
THANKS for all your input!!! [drink]
So the drama continues...After banging my head against the wall with why this is not fitting correctly, i matched up the part numbers from what i ordered and what i got and sure enough, the part that motowheels sent me was MD-MN00-C01 which is NOT the DP part...
I called them up (and they were quite nice) and i explained to them that i received the wrong part and they said that its actucally the same exact part and that the part i got (the wrong one) is BETTER than the DP one and the only difference is that the DP part comes in a box that says ducati... ??? ??? Kind of like buying a Maserati and getting a saturn and being told well they both have wheels and they both transport you back and forth and the saturn gets better gas mileage so..... [roll]
They explained that the DP part will have the same fitting issues as this one and I told them that i would like to get the part that i paid for...Is that too much to ask..??? [bang]
Now to the question....Is the quality of the non DP part better/worse/same as the DP one...
I bought DP carbon side thingies, side scoops, the bottom thing, and the beer tray thing. NONE of them fit out of the box. The beer tray thing required major refitting. The rasp file, Dremel, and face mask are your friends. I also bought a US made superbike cf front fender and it fit perfectly, looks great, is strong, and works. My experience with Motowheels has been good. Save your money.
The price dif wasnt that great maybe $30...but they continue to beat the prices of many other competitors so i def will stay with them but i just want what i pay for...
Dremel is coming out of the drawer as soon as i get the new part :)
Many DP parts (especially cabon stuff) are from third party manufacturers. Fitment is often not perfect with the aftermarket stuff. Sometimes parts require shims and sometimes gentle reshaping. In the end it makes it all the more custom when you have to do a little work yourself.
I had the same problem on an older M800--the diversion fender would rub against the forks. I had to fiddle with it quite a bit to fix the problem. Same deal with the shorty beer tray from the DP catalog. Nothing seems to fit perfectly right out of the box.
I ended up using a larger size drill bit and boring out the top holes so that the top of the fender can come away from the forks..The bottom holes i left alone as they are just acting as a pivot. Looks awesome...ill see if i can post some pics (although you guys know what it looks like..) :)
Glad to hear it worked out.
