Title: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: Timmy Tucker on May 21, 2008, 02:01:39 PM Took Daisy along to the bank w/ me like I always do. Me being the halfwit make the beast with two backs idiot that I am, I forgot to roll up her window part-way. Made it less than a mile from the house and she bailed out the passenger window while I was going about 30-35. Poor girl landed on her face and rolled a few times. The van behind me just barely screeched to a stop about 2 feet from her. I thought for sure she was a goner. I jumped out, snatched her up and hauled ass to the vet's office. Fortunately, doc says she's just fine, mostly scratched up. Got a little road rash on her face. It's been about 2 hours and she's starting to get a little stiff now, kinda hobbling around. I feel like a real dickhead.

Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: Timmy Tucker on May 21, 2008, 02:10:53 PM On a side note...
It's very easy to conceal quartered doggy pills in crunchy peanut butter. [thumbsup] Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: Triple J on May 21, 2008, 02:11:09 PM That really sucks. Dogs are tough though.
Probably the last time she jumps out of the window. [thumbsup] Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: gm2 on May 21, 2008, 02:27:08 PM she looks like a good friend of mine....
(http://7mzdt.com/images/dmodel.jpg) thank god she's ok. and yeah, you can feed them just about anything if it's hidden in peanut butter. :) Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: T-byrd on May 21, 2008, 02:33:27 PM Quit beating yourself up, easier said than done, I know. you were letting Daisy do something she absolutely loves, right? You wont let her ride in the car with the window all the way down again, hard lesson to learn but I'm sure you did.
Your baby is going to be ok, just love on her a little more and quit beating yourself up. I'm sure given a voice she would forgive you. Really glad she's going to be ok. T Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: gnostic203 on May 21, 2008, 02:36:57 PM Poop that sucks. At least she learned a valuable lesson, eat more peanut butter. I'm always afraid of the same thing with my dumb mutts.
Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: DesmoDog on May 21, 2008, 02:48:38 PM Bummer! That must have scared the hell out of both of you! Glad to hear she's going to be ok.
I'm always super paranoid my dogs are going to do the same thing. I used to take them in a convertible once in a while but would keep them on leashes so they couldn't bail. Worked out ok but I got sick of cleaning all the slobber off the side of the car afterwards! Black car + dog slobber = not attractive... Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: Triple J on May 21, 2008, 03:00:27 PM she looks like a good friend of mine.... (http://7mzdt.com/images/dmodel.jpg) Great picture! Looks all cool with his/her ears laid back. ;D Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: Count Desmo on May 21, 2008, 03:48:46 PM Doesn't look too bad. Don't blame yourself, Dog's don't usually think things through. :)
Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: KnightofNi on May 21, 2008, 03:51:53 PM wow..the fart was so bad that it made the dog bail. [puke]
and the window was even open...dam [cheeky] sorry to hear about the dog, it's ok, she's fine and will heal. Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: TiNi on May 21, 2008, 03:52:47 PM glad she's ok... and like T said, i'm sure she'd forgive you if she could.
Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: NAKID on May 21, 2008, 05:09:20 PM Sorry to hear about that.
On another note, what's with the nipple shots? [laugh] Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: desmoquattro on May 21, 2008, 06:06:25 PM Glad to see she's OK!
Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: Shortie on May 21, 2008, 07:19:37 PM Aww cute puppy!! I'm so glad she's ok!!
Accidents happen darlin', the important part is she's going to be alright and I'm sure it won't happen again. Giving dogs peanut butter is the funniest thing ever. Period. :) Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: somegirl on May 21, 2008, 07:22:50 PM Glad to hear Daisy is going to be ok! [thumbsup]

Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: Kaveh on May 21, 2008, 07:47:34 PM I used to have a jeep wrangler and I would take the top and doors off in the summer. Jazz, my Choc Lab (2 years old at the time of this story) was really good about leaning into the turns and going to the back seat when she didn't feel like leaning into turns anymore. One day Jazz fell asleep in the passenger seat and I took a left turn at an intersection after a red light turned green. I was only going about 5-15 mph when she bailed. I slammed on my brakes and she just hoped back in like nothing happened. She is tough as nails.
[thumbsup] to a speedy recovery for Daisy [thumbsup] Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: Big Troubled Bear on May 21, 2008, 11:56:19 PM Qute puppy, glad she`s ok [thumbsup]
Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: IZ on May 22, 2008, 12:42:05 PM Arghh..poor dog!! A Good ending though!! [thumbsup]
The bulldog we rescued jumped out the back window of the SUV. Luckily, he had a collar/leash on and he was fastened inside the back seat. I was only going 10 mph in the PetSmart parking lot. I came to a stop, got out and he was hanging like a sack of potatoes. Luckily, Bulldogs have thick necks. He was fine but a little traumatized. My pug jumped out the back of the S-10 when he was a puppy. He got excited as we were parking and jumped over the side off. He landed on his mouth/chin. Didn't knock out any teeth but he cut himself a good one!! :-[ On a side note... It's very easy to conceal quartered doggy pills in crunchy peanut butter. [thumbsup] LOL..my Frenchie thinks pills are treats. She's like a friggen goat. No need to conceal any medications! [roll] Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: 38 OFF on May 22, 2008, 01:53:02 PM My brittany at 4 months old jumped out of the side window out of the back of my pickup. The canopy window was closed, and he nosed it open.
I was doing 60 mph on the freeway, just happened to catch him in the act, but not soon enough. I zoomed to the shoulder while slamming on the brakes, he jumped during this procedure. When I came to a stop he was under the truck. Took two months of extremely restricted motion, then slow walks. He's a year now, runs like the wind, but will always have sort of hiccup in his giddyup. He's terrified of the back of the truck now....go figure. Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: Nitewaif on May 23, 2008, 06:06:30 AM Poor Doggy. I'm glad she's gonna be ok - and I bet she doesn't do that again.
Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: ducrider45 on May 23, 2008, 06:29:27 AM My dog maggie jumped out of a third story window in my old house. Some kids were calling her name when they saw her in the window. She broke all of her ribs and front leg on her right side. The leg is fused at the elbow. We now call her Hop-Along-Maggie. She was only 9weeks old at the time of the jump. She is 7 now and doing well.

She broke all of her ribs and front leg on her right side. The leg is fused at the elbow It's astounding what can happen to these animals and they still keep going. I've had some hunting dogs do things you would think impossible, or have stuff happen to them while hunting and they just keep going. Truly amazing. Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: Scooter Montgomery on May 23, 2008, 07:57:43 AM Glad she is ok. She is probably thinking "Seemed like a good idea at the time." I know I would.

Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: Timmy Tucker on May 23, 2008, 09:43:43 PM Thanks for all the kind words! She had a pretty rough day yesterday. Couldn't get on the couch or the bed, and couldn't walk up/down the steps on her own. Today she's back to about 90%. Came running up to me at full speed when I got home from work and was hopping around like normal. Still has a bit of a limp in one of her back legs, but nothing too bad. Aside from the road rash, I think she'll be just fine in a few days.
On another note, I'm sorry to hear about all of your dogs that have done the same thing. It's apparently more common than I thought. Title: Re: My poor doggy highsided, was not ATGATT Post by: Ducatista on May 31, 2008, 08:16:32 AM Dogs are so wonderful, since they don't have all these emotional problems with pain and discomfort. They always forgive you for your moments of stupidity. I'm glad she's feeling better!
