Title: New to forum need advice plz.
Post by: dansamp on May 21, 2008, 02:18:50 PM
Hello all,
just joined up here found this site through speedzilla

anyway I have a 98 M900 (the motor with the small valves)
I have a set of 95 SS900 heads and am wondering if they are a direct bolt on
my concern is regarding the oil passages  since the 95 SS motor has external oil lines to the cylinders and the 98 motor has internal oiling passages

I Think that you need leftside cover from earlier model where those hoses go and the hoses of course. they are return lines as far as I know.
Others may confirm perhaps, Im not 100% sure

I pinged Duck-Stew.

I'll eventually be facing this issue with my Cagiva, so, that makes two of us that need to know.

the oil lines go from the crankcase to the cylinders
my concern is with the oiling to the heads
there are no external lines to the heads in either early or late 900 motors
so I am  hoping the oil passages from the cylinders to the heads is the same
that is my question

It's a bolt-on swap.

The '98 M900's w/the 'W' heads had different oil drain-backs than previous engines (the external lines) they drained back the oil down through the barrel into the crank-case.  The older engines had the oil drain-back hoses external to the alternator side cover.

Hey Stew, did the 900 motors have the same change from square tooth to round tooth belts around '98 or '99 like the 750s did? Part of that "bolt on" might be swapping the cam pulleys over...

big

IIRC Big, the 900's were always round tooth belts...
