Title: Custom brake lines..
Post by: TAftonomos on August 04, 2009, 08:19:53 AM
How much slack is considered acceptable for a brake line?

I'm using RCS master/1098 monoblocks.  1098 loop line from caliper to caliper, and routing the now single brake line down the right side fork leg.  Not sure how much slack I need.... currently no way to extend the forks all the way to check for myself....  nor do I have the origional line to check either :(

I was thinking 1" of slack would be enough, thoughts?

Is your sag w/o rider around 5mm?  Then 1" would probably be adequate.  If it were me, I'd get a friend to help me lift the front end to make sure, though.

I ordered some custom lines that were too long, and Cycle Brakes shortened them for a modest charge, but they can't make 'em longer ;)

Stock lines *appear* to have 2-3 inches extra length.  One inch would make me a bit nervous.   Speigler is fast and inexpensive; I love those folks.

Another thought: make sure the forks are dropped as far in the triples as possible when you measure, unless you plan to never change the ride height.

Galfer will set you up.   I've talked to the guy there and it's a one or two day deal.  He knows what you need and probably has the pieces in stock, or will make them for you.
