Title: Sag
Post by: NoBrakes695 on August 04, 2009, 07:48:58 PM
A question about rear sag? How much sag do you get while in all ridding gear?
I ride a 2008 695 I get maybe 3" of sag. No issues in handling just questions. Has anyone replaced the rear shock spring?
Thanks,

How much do you weigh?

Sounds like you need a spring.

Hmmm... OEM spring should be alright for you.  :-\

Perhaps it's been changed, did you buy the bike used?

I got it used. I will remeasure the sag then re-post. But I agree a spring is in the future.

Is preload set correctly?  If you have the OEM spring you have a progressive spring.

My suspension shop gave me riders sag 36mm (1.5 inches) on my S2R. I'm still confused if that is plus OR included my 12mm (1/2 inch) free sag. Speeddog/Howie, which is it?

It sounds like your suspension has been adjusted out of the ordinary. Way too much sag for your weight.
Lucky for you, it's easy to fix.

3 " is alot of sag.  I would have a friend check with a tape measurer to conferm that number.  At your wieght a stock spring should be fine if it has not been swaped out as others have said.  Does the preload adjust look like it has been moved?  I think mine was set at the factory about 3/4 of the way up the threads.

I adjusted the spring and took a measurement today. The sag is now 1"
Thanks for all the information guys.

How does it feel riding it now? Did you adjust the rebound accordingly? (To keep it from jumping/loosing traction)

Rode today the bike felt planted giving good traction on all road surfaces.
