Title: Finally Left the old DML
Post by: mihama01 on May 21, 2008, 06:07:41 PM
Hi there,

I am sure everyone is sick to death of the whole VS thing, but I just need to vent.

I have been hanging around both forums for a while just to let the dust clear, see what happens.

They actually deleted my posts and censored others, I know this happened to others, but the posts in question were in no way offensive. The post that got deleted was about censorship and how it was counter productive.

I am no longer visiting the VS forum. It makes me mad as hell to have my freedom of speech taken away and I took issue up with the management of VS. I am not sure they are aware of whats going on, or even care, but as a business investment they surely messed up.

Contact details for VS are:

VerticalScope President Rob Laidlaw

Advertising: Marino Brilli, Director of Sales

All information is publically available via Google search so I dont think I will get into trouble posting it here

Vent now complete

Copy of the email is below

Dear Rob Jerry & Marino,
I should like to lodge an complaint with yourselves about censorship on the www.ducatimonster.org website that was recently been aquired by Vertical Scope. I am a registered user of that site.
Posts are being edited and removed without notice which makes the site virtually useless for any informed conversation or as a technical resource.
This is one of the factors that have driven a large number of users off the site.
Ironically it was my post about censorship that was removed the site without warning and so drove me to write this letter. This has happened to others many times also.
From a business perspective Vertical Scope invested in a resource and then essentially destroyed within two weeks, the censorship has proved completely counter productive
In the process VS has generated a large amount of bad publicity for itself.
Please stop censorship  immeditely or make it explicit in the terms of service for the site that "Posts may be censorsored or removed for whatever reason and at any time"
I will be be posting a copy of this message on the forum also
I value my freedom of speech and I hope you do too!
Thank you for your time
Kind Regards
S.Lester

Well, i for one don't miss it at all.
I clicked on the link once yesterday and again today, just to see what's up. The level of hostility is apalling.
It seems that even the least offensive post from someone looking for help gets bashed. There are a couple of guys over there that just can't seem to help themselves. Everything they post is smartassed and hostile.
Not at all the DML we had become accustomed to. :-\

You have to remember they are from Canada. I don't say this to bash the country or it's citizens but remember it's the United States that has the Constitution and the right to freedom of speech.
It doesn't apply to other countries.  :-X

I would hope that the principle would be upheld in other countries even if it is not written into the constitution

It is in England although less so in Japan.

oh good grief, stop pregnant doging about "freedom of speech" when some dickweed deletes your posts.

freedom of speech relates to government action and ONLY government action.  if any private individual deletes your posts, or prevents you from putting up a sign, or whatever, it is not a freedom of speech issue.

let's see what Amendment I says:

QuoteCongress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

CONGRESS (and state governments, by virture of the Supreme Court) is prohibited, NOT VERTICAL SCOPE.

ARGH

Since when does the 1st amendment even come within 10 city blocks of private property?  Not that I'm a fan of TOB (I don't even go there) but guys - it's private property.  It's "their" house.  It's the same as asking a guest in your home or business to leave - it's their sandbox, it's their choice.  Let them take their ball and leave.

Note: They still suck donkey balls  [laugh]

FYI - section 2(b) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms

Still - VS owns the board - VS can and do censor whatever they want on their board. That is why alot of us are here I suspect.  :-\

For me, I didn't have the constitution in mind when I posted. They can do as they choose, they are a private entity.

What caused the rant was the sheer stupidity of it from a business perspective. They buy something then destroy it.

All they have left now is tumbleweed.

The users gave the site its value, the users value freedom of speech therefor to keep the users and value, maintain freedom of speech.

(They dont care about actual users of course, but users = page clicks = advertising revenue)

Frankly the complaint would better be sent to their advertisers, asking why they wish to be associated with such an incompetent organization.

It's actually 75%. Also, our healthcare coverage generally doesn't apply to US services. I doubt the location of major cities would have much to do with access to more MRIs or something.  [roll]
