Title: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: cooper01 on August 07, 2009, 12:57:08 PM Hello, I am about to get my first monster and have learned that there is a new schedule that, as I have heard, be a little easier and cheaper. If i'm wrong please just let me know. Also, if there is any location or thread that compares the old to new way they are doing it I would be happy to be pointed there. If not and you might just give a quick line or two about it, thank you. Have a great day.
Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: numbskull on August 07, 2009, 01:02:08 PM The new maintenance schedule was introduced on the 2007 models. I haven't heard of any changes since.
Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: DCXCV on August 07, 2009, 01:11:57 PM And, since 2007, it has been "cheaper and easier" because the interval is longer - every 7,500 miles instead of every 6,000 miles.
Not that the services themselves are cheaper or easier. Just that they happen with less frequency. Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: scduc on August 07, 2009, 01:30:42 PM If I recall correctly, Ducati used to have a service at 600miles. They still do, but it is only an oil change/filter and check all fluid levels and chain tension. At 7500miles, they want you to take it to the dealer. I'm at 6600 now, and will be taking it in near the end of the month. not sure of the cost yet. I hear alot of conflicting stories.

Beverly Hills Ducati told me my first 7500 mile service would run $1000 to $1200. Pro Italia gave me an indentical estimate. :o Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: redxblack on August 07, 2009, 02:27:09 PM Why is it so expensive to check valves and change belts?
Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: NorDog on August 07, 2009, 02:27:50 PM Derby, Arai,
Thanks. Definitely will be going that route. As rarely as I've been able to find time to ride, it'll be a few more months before I hit the 7500 mark. Thanks again. [thumbsup] Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: NorDog on August 07, 2009, 02:32:38 PM Why is it so expensive to check valves and change belts? The real expense is in finding DOT approved blinker fluid. Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: mstevens on August 07, 2009, 03:08:56 PM By 7,500 miles my parking brake cable was shot and I had to have it replaced. You wouldn't believe how much Ducati parking brake parts cost. My reverse gear was badly worn, but they were able repair it instead of replacing it. Still cost a bundle, though.
Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: scduc on August 07, 2009, 04:25:24 PM If its going to cost me 1k, then I am going to have to learn how to do all the maintence myself. I can't shop around, The only Duc service is at my dealer who is 30 miles away. The next closest is over 100 at ChicagoCycle and I dont think I want to take it there.
Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: redxblack on August 07, 2009, 05:19:30 PM The real expense is in finding DOT approved blinker fluid. Getting the wrong fluid isn't a big deal - you can add a few diodes in the circuit and it'll still work. Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: ArguZ on August 08, 2009, 07:42:50 AM Was anyone actually able to hit the 12.000 km or 7.500 miles in one year ?
I parked the bike at the dealer with 9000 km and went for the big service. This year I will do a lot less I think. Still I have to do the next big service after two years.. In a way I am ok with doing it once a year, because I am a mechanical n00b and want the bike in best condition. Still...I think its a marketing trick more than a real offer [coffee] Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: cooper01 on August 09, 2009, 05:32:54 AM I was talking to my neighbor who has a new 1098 and he was saying something about the valves. He said that he was told that at the first check (7500 miles) they didn't do the valves which made it much cheaper. Do any of you know anything about that? It could easily be wrong, or maybe something that is just for the 1098. I don't know and would like to learn if it would really be that much more cost effective to buy a 2007+ model. Thanks
Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: aal on August 09, 2009, 06:17:42 AM I thought for the 2 valve bikes the dealer 7,500 service was more like $800.
Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: be350ka on August 09, 2009, 07:47:03 AM $800 for a 2 valve is still expensive. If you look around there are a lot of dealers charging WAY too much for these services. You should be in the $400 range plus parts if needed.
Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: scduc on August 09, 2009, 08:57:22 AM I was quoted $620. But they only check the belts, no replacement til 15k. He said they do check and adjust valves and sync injectors. To me, it doesn't sound too bad. Something you have to do in-order to keep warranty.

In 6.5 months I'm at 7180 miles. I'm adding another 900 miles in 3 days soon. So, yes to your question. It's not a commuter bike, I just go on long rides on the weekends. I look at it this way. I can stare at it or ride it. [thumbsup] Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: scduc on August 10, 2009, 12:19:18 PM Last year I rode for 6 short months and put on 5500. this year I might only put on 3500. Weather has sucked and getting older allows the cold to do great harm to the fingers.
Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: cooper01 on August 16, 2009, 04:51:28 PM Does anyone know how much a color change kit costs for the 696? I would really like to have a white and a red for those days I just want to be true to ducati!
Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules? Post by: sbrguy on August 16, 2009, 05:35:18 PM goto nick at valley ducati or call him if he is in your area, he is fair and much cheaper and just as good of work as a "ducati dealer".
the reason why even the 2 valve adjustments are so expensive in the few hundreds of dollars is because after you see what has to be done to get to the vertical cylinder and how little space you have unless you have the time its something you will glady pay someone else to do the work. even if a person is "very good" at adjusting the valves and such it still takes a few hours to do all the stuff required at a 7.5k service interval. its not as "easy" as some others may make it out to be, sure "technically" its not very difficult to do, but its all that stuff you have to do just to get to the workspace that makes it difficult. Yes, I do. http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=28242.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=28242.0) They're $699, at least for "normal" colors. The platinum silver is apparently more. Title: Re: Whats up with the new maintenance schedules?
