Title: weird tachometer thing
Post by: Tommysurfs on August 07, 2009, 04:20:10 PM
So, I think this is my first post.  I'm just not into typing much.  My bike is a 2001 M750.  Sometimes when I'm riding the tachometer stops working, drops to nothing and it seems the engine loses a little power.  I pull the clutch, rev the engine and the tach works.  Let go of the clutch and nothing.  This used to happen once in awhile for seconds at a time.  Today it happened for extended periods of time, over and over again.  I've never heard of this and I really don't know what to do about it.  Any ideas?

thanks,
Tommy

Sounds to me like you have a loose wire somewhere. Try and run from start to end all connection that come off the panel. Really all you need is the tach which if I remember correctly is plugged into a panel near the battery

Actually, my first duc was a 2001 M750 and I had the same issue.  There is a wire on one of the coils that has a tendency to work loose.  It will kill the tach and one cylinder.  I believe it is on the coil on the right side of the bike when seated on the bike.  The wire is on the underside of the coil and is hard to see.  I pulled it off and pinched the connector slightly with some pliers then reconnected it and bingo no more problems.

Thanks for the help.  I was thinking loose wire earlier today and will check it out tomorrow.  Thanks again.
