Title: Ducati Superbike Yellow Colorways Post by: DucFanatic on August 08, 2009, 12:28:00 AM Simple question... dont' bite my head off, please.
I have a Ducati 749 (2004 model year)... yellow. The question is how many different color yellows were produced for the Ducati superbike line up? Is it possible the color yellow used for the model 749s would be different than the color yellow for the base model 749? That said, no two yellow Ducatis seem to be the same color...sometimes you can see color variation on the same bike. The color variation can be from several factors. I can get into it further if you want to. Title: Re: Ducati Superbike Yellow Colorways Post by: Porsche Monkey on August 08, 2009, 04:57:31 AM I have a yellow monster. Bought it used. The seat cowl was hardly ever installed before I bought the bike. The cowl was a very different shade of yellow than the rest of the bike. Now that it never comes off its starting to match.

Linda produces a reddish tone whereas MS makes the yellow a tiny bit more greenish. The guy I share the shop with is a really good painter. Customer rolls in on a yellow SBK with some roadrash. Customer: How much to fix the bodywork? Jim the painter: That looks like $XXXX. Customer: Hmm, OK. Can you match the yellow? Jim the painter: Which panel do you want me to match? They're all different. Customer: WTF? ??? <looking at bike> Ohhhh.... :'( Title: Re: Ducati Superbike Yellow Colorways Post by: DucFanatic on August 08, 2009, 08:55:52 AM so if i wanted to painted rashed up body panels from a bike that is NOT my own, the best move woudl be to color match a panel on MY BIKE and not the rashed panels themselves?
apparently, i had them color match the panel itself and the resulting colors are PROFOUNDLY different... as in different family of colors vs. shades. Ill snap up a photo, the difference is THAT pronounced. Title: Re: Ducati Superbike Yellow Colorways Post by: Raux on August 09, 2009, 12:36:38 AM i've never owned a bike with all that body work. but would it be just as economical to paint the whole bike instead of trying to colormatch pieces?

That's right...match to your bike.apparently, i had them color match the panel itself and the resulting colors are PROFOUNDLY different... as in different family of colors vs. shades. Ill snap up a photo, the difference is THAT pronounced. It can get kind of tricky with fairing sides as they butt up to the nose fairing, and often the pieces don't match anyway. i've never owned a bike with all that body work. but would it be just as economical to paint the whole bike instead of trying to colormatch pieces? I don't think so. |
