Title: It only took me 10 months Post by: KnightofNi on August 09, 2009, 02:49:02 PM to go from this
(http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff167/kngtofni/duc/S5032096.jpg) to this (http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff167/kngtofni/duc/heartbeat.jpg) this is the first time i have sat on the bike since Oct 08. i'm a bit happy. so happy in fact that i forgot to throw horns until the last second and didn't quite get my hand into position [laugh] (http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff167/kngtofni/duc/happy.jpg) however, it won't be ridden for at least a week. I still have a couple of minor things to wrap up before it's ready to be fired up. :o I can't seem to find the gasket i ordered, and i no longer have the shim for the air gap so i can't use silicon. [bang] (http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff167/kngtofni/duc/lefttodo.jpg) now as long as i get it up and running before Oct i win. I was told by my friends that it would stay unfinished for at least a year. :-[ Title: Re: It only took me 10 months Post by: krolik on August 09, 2009, 02:52:26 PM That Monster needs more stickers. [evil]
Title: Re: It only took me 10 months Post by: KnightofNi on August 09, 2009, 03:06:53 PM one other thing i need to add...
getting the nuts on the vertical exhaust header make the beast with two backsING SUCKS. when designing the engin could they at least have them come out straight so you can get to them easier if they are only going to leave you 1" of space to turn the dam things? That Monster needs more stickers. [evil] i would say that it depends on the stickers that are being suggested (is that a hint as to what i will find in my mailbox soon?) [evil] i asked the g/f if she had gottent he mail yesterday and she said "ohh yeah, something came for you." she had expertly hidden it in plain sight underneath some bills. i think i have a place for those stickers. [thumbsup] thanks kerponik Title: Re: It only took me 10 months Post by: KnightofNi on August 09, 2009, 04:47:47 PM So....it took you 10 months to fix the headlight? :P well you know how long it takes to get parts from italy. i had to wait that long to get the headlight fluid. Title: Re: It only took me 10 months Post by: ducatiz on August 09, 2009, 04:57:10 PM one other thing i need to add... getting the nuts on the vertical exhaust header make the beast with two backsING SUCKS. when designing the engin could they at least have them come out straight so you can get to them easier if they are only going to leave you 1" of space to turn the dam things? do you have the correct tool? it's the crazy-ass looking C thing that has a nut driver on one end and a socket on the other. using that, you understand why they don't care there is an inch of clearance. Title: Re: It only took me 10 months Post by: KnightofNi on August 09, 2009, 07:43:52 PM do you have the correct tool? it's the crazy-ass looking C thing that has a nut driver on one end and a socket on the other. using that, you understand why they don't care there is an inch of clearance. i forgot about that part. ducati needs to sell the tools to work on the engine. >:( i'm not spending $80 for the tool. i'll just bang my knuckles, get frustrated and take a lot longer to do it thank you very much. [laugh] ohh, i don't suppose anyone has a left side control for an IE monster laying around. mine has a broken idle lever. [laugh] [laugh] i've slowly built up a list of ducati tools over the years. you just get tired of the band-aids. ;D Title: Re: It only took me 10 months Post by: Speedbag on August 10, 2009, 02:24:22 AM i think i have a place for those stickers. [thumbsup] thanks kerponik We're gonna need a special thread just for those stickers..... ;) Title: Re: It only took me 10 months Post by: KnightofNi on August 24, 2009, 04:36:15 PM wish me luck everybody...it's time to hit the button. hopefully there will be a video of the bike running and not of me crying in a little bit.
just doing some last minute rechecks of my rechecks and then i'm going to try it. Title: Re: It only took me 10 months Post by: CMDRDAVE on August 24, 2009, 05:06:00 PM Good luck! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. [popcorn]

Title: Re: It only took me 10 months Post by: KnightofNi on August 24, 2009, 07:12:38 PM umm, so apparently you have to actually charge the battery.
[bang] it made an effort and gave a nice whump, but didn't come close to firing. [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] Title: Re: It only took me 10 months Post by: mdriver on August 24, 2009, 07:26:26 PM Just don't use the starter to check the cam timing OK. [cheeky]
Oh and [thumbsup] Title: Re: It only took me 10 months Post by: KnightofNi on August 25, 2009, 03:33:56 AM Just don't use the starter to check the cam timing OK. [cheeky] Oh and [thumbsup] talk to keith, i checked it like 6 times by spinning the rear wheel. if a valve is bent this time it's because that's the way it was when i got the engine. Title: Re: It only took me 10 months Post by: ducrider45 on August 25, 2009, 04:25:18 PM i forgot about that part. I do, but it is off of an 00 M900Sie. It is not as sleek looking as the 02+ controls.ducati needs to sell the tools to work on the engine. >:( i'm not spending $80 for the tool. i'll just bang my knuckles, get frustrated and take a lot longer to do it thank you very much.
