Title: termignoni exhaust
Post by: 09/1100 on August 10, 2009, 08:12:28 AM
i have a 2009 monster 1100 and am interested in the termignoni slip ons with the ecu and air cleaner. how much louder than stock will they be? i want the bike to be more noticeable to cars on the road  , and what kind of performance gain can i expect. thanx.

Welcome to the DMF!  We'd love to see pictures of your Duc if you have any. :)

You will probably get more answers to your questions in the Accessories & Mods (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=5.0) forum.

The termis will definitely be louder than stock, especially if you take the baffles out; an open airbox will also increase the noise.  However in my personal opinion that won't make you much more noticeable to traffic. :-\

I don't know specifically about performance gains on the 1100; on my 695 the DP ECU smoothed out the curve so I no longer have a dip midrange in the RPMs [thumbsup].  There will also be a slight improvement from the weight reduction.  My ECU didn't change my top HP.

At the bottom left side of this thread - a button which says "move . . ."  Or just make a new post there.

In my opinion: GO FOR IT  [thumbsup] (and of course - WELCOME)

It definitely sounds more like a proper Duc... but I agree that it won't really get you much more of the attention that drivers are paying to texting and not ending your life... I say go for it, but don't try to justify the expense with the 'loud pipes save lives' line.  Now, loud clutches - those do save lives  ;)

the noise blows behind you and so the cars that can kill you by cutting you off or taking your lane will not hear you. because of my experience, i recommend that you be ready for a DP ecu and dyno tune ($$$). the performance is signifigant on my bike and i suspect you will also notice a game changer in the HP and torque  [moto]

ok so forget the loud pipes saves lives. how much louder are they and should you take out the db killers or not.

Turn up the volume on your pc, and play the above video.

tuning a ducati is primitive and IME playing with the exhaust system is playing with fire. if she doesn't run well then you may have to step it up with a power commander and dyno tune.

it may be different for your bike (i'm no expert, just going by experience) but with the old monsters if you wanted the power commander to fix the lower rpm and throttle position you needed the ducati performance ecu.

my bike was doing some sputtering and stalling before i had this done. it's been running like a dream - super smooth - after the dyno tune. you can try the slip-on and may be OK. i just wanted to let you know what to do in case things go wrong or if you wanted max performance.  [evil]  good luck

This bike has teh full termis, which has a bigger pipe. Not sure how that translates into sound, though? I have teh same set up, minus the baffles, and it's loud enough for me. When lane splitting, I feel bad for those with their windows down. For those who close in the lane, I give them a little extra love when I pass by.  [evil]

"How much louder?"

My bike is measured at 95dB with the dB-killers - 105dB without. (at 5,000 revs, 4' behind/side the bike)

When you're inside a car you're hearing typically about 80dB (I think).

So, if standing just behind a Ducati at 5,000 revs is "a lot" louder than being inside a moving car - you can perhaps imagine the "improvement" going from killers to no killers (another 10 from 95 to 105)

Ah another 1100 owner itchin' to spend more...be warned the more you scratch the more you itch ;D. I was ordering parts even before the bike arrived.

WELCOME!

I have an 1100 and installed the termis slip-ons and ECU. You will definitely need to have a Ducati mechanic with a DDS set the F/A mixture after the install. So figure that into your budget.
The 1100 is a bit louder with the termis but IMHO it is mostly deeper and more throaty. It certainly sounds better to me.
I took the baffles (db killers) out for a few days and then reinstalled them. WAY LOUD. I kinda liked it but I like my neighbors too & live at the top of a hill. I just didn't want to be "that obnoxious guy with the red bike"
Truthfully, I didn't notice any real "performance" gains like faster or more power with the termis. The bike did seem to run smoother though.
My favorite performance gain to date come with the 14t front sprocket. That provided a NOTICEABLE difference. Cheap too.  [thumbsup]

dp ecu = Ducati Performance ECU...the electronic thingy that controls the fuel injection of the bike

dyno tune = putting it up on a dyno for a dyno run to see where the horsepower and torque are at. Then the engine/ecu is tuned to run properly.

Not too sure on the 1100, but on the previous generation Monsters, the difference between slip-ons and a full Termi setup is night and day when it comes to performance and sound. When I first went with the Termi setup (DP ecu, airbox and slip-ons) I found it louder but performance gains seemed minimal, though it did smooth the bike out and made it rideable. (many threads about S2R1000 issues). After getting rid of the udder and going to a full system and tune - wow. Completely different bike. Loud? very [evil]
