That price was a ghastly end to the 74-year-old's life. A handyman found her body outside her home Friday. The bears had eaten part of her.

I guess she wasn't completely sweet!

I'm sorry but this story makes me absolutley sick.  She was asking for it and the bears did not need to be shot.  If I read it right the police are targeting 14 bears to be put down.  What a damn shame.

I wouldn't say she was asking for it, but she knew the risk and was willing to take it.

While walking in Munson's neighborhood on Wednesday, Correa said he saw an aggressive bear that was absolutely unafraid of him or his friends. “He didn't run away or anything,” Correa said. “He just looked over and was just prancing around.”

Sounds dangerous.  Holy crap there's a bear prancing around over there not coming towards us! Kill it!  [roll]

Prancing bears are the most dangerous type of bear.

Unfortunately bro, that is what has to be done. That stupid old lady messed with a group of bears and changed their personalities into that of an aggressive one.

For the safety of the neighborhood and the bears....they need to be put down.

It's sad, but a cold reality.

How does feeding a bear make it more aggressive?  I understand it can make a bear have less fear of people, which could lead to an unfortunate incident.  I don't think it makes them more aggressive in general or towards people.

Another heart warming nature story.  Like here when Fish and Game hunted three or four mountain lions that were "exhibiting stalking behavior" in an area of a southern Arizona mountain range that is one of the most lush year-round landscapes.  Good place for them to find deer and whatnot, right? Oh wait, sorry lions, we paved that so that's where most of Tucson and the vacationers go to "experience nature."  Please don't stalk the defensless pudgy bi-peds cause you're not allowed.

Don't get me wrong, I am not advocating animals over people.  Well, ya know, not all people, anyway.  [evil]

Maybe we could merge this with the prisoner thread and really have some thing for the prisoners to do.

Keeping the wild game distracted from the innocent vacationers, kinda like rodeo clowns but without the barrel. ;D

Maybe we could get some of the Bear meat for chili.

Our USDA approved free-range bears graze on only the finest geriatric flesh, ensuring healthy, mouthwateringly marbled morsels in each spoonful of delicious chili con carnal. [wine]

why is it when an animal kills a human...it's hunted down and shot on sight.

when a human kills another human...... we keep it alive, give it cable tv and a gym.

Because to put bears on trial they would need to wear pants and that would just be dumb.  ;D

Typical over-reactive human behavior.  >:(

[painful admission] i have to agree with cyrus. once bears have figured out the relative ease with which they can a) live of human garbage b) live of human domestic animals (dogs) c) kill humans who are bugging them and might taste good, the bear has learned behavior traits which will not go away. in fact, relocating the bear great distances will not work, as they become programmed to return to the land of easy hunting. [/painful admission]

Bro-in-law's a ranger type and says don't play dead for black bear - if they attack they're lightly going to eat you.

Lots of bears around where I live these days.  We got a deal - they don't make the beast with two backs with me, I don't make the beast with two backs with them. ;D

because to do that to a bear would be cruelty to animals.
