I don't know if the DML threads will stay as they are, so I had to bring this one over here in the interest of not letting it die.  It is, perhaps, the most useful post I ever put up on the DML.


"Well, the m900 runs with the sidestand down now, and if it slips out of neutral, the engine is cut.  Total cost = $1.49

Radio shack part number 276-1144 for a 3 amp barrel diode.  Connect the yellow/green wire from the neutral switch to the blue/black wire on the side stand switch (i believe this is the side stand switch ground, and ill have to double check the color of the wire-so don't just get in there and start cutting things)  the stripe on the diode goes toward the neutral switch.  We just used a piece of wire laying around to make this jumper.  Its win/win.  The bike runs with the stand down, while in neutral.  If its in gear, or slips in gear, it won't run- or dies if it slips into gear.  Enjoy this as about the cheapest mod you'll come across  :)"

just rip the plug out of the kick stand.

Cut the wires as high as you can. Solder them and tape / heat wrap them.

Simple clean and you should have the wire if you every wanted to go back  wt:

While this will work, your bike will continue to run in gear with the sidestand down, which is what you don't want. . .

The way I have mine wired is the sidestand switch is unplugged and the plug coming from the bike has a jumperwire. I have accidentally bumped the shift lever with the kickstand down. bike still just shut off....

That's what i did,no problem so far.I just doyble check the stand everytime i take off.Good habit to do. wt:

Hey Sause, I was thinking of doing it like you did, but then I was wondering what to do with the wiring that comes from the neutral switch on the back of the crankcase.  ????   Has anybody ever tweaked their bike to have the starter disabled if the bike is in gear?  I am not so afraid of riding away with my kickstand down, as I am of starting the bike while it is in gear.  I never sit on the bike for warmup, just stand beside it while putting on gear while it's running.

haha I ride away with it down once in a while (1 in every 15 times) but when it hits it always goes right up with no incident... never managed to get above 5 mph before it hit the ground though.

Did this a few months ago and love it!  I've actually already dropped it in gear a few times with the stand down.  $1.49 saved my ass!

I bought some parts from a totalled 999r owner that did the same thing with the kickstand.  5-10mph and bike cartwheeled.

He shouldda spend the $1.49

No doubt. I don't get why Ducati doesn't do this from the factory like the Metric bikes. This has been a great mod especially when temps are in the 40s in the mornings around here.
