Title: Indiana Jones **Spoilers**
Post by: Timmy Tucker on May 22, 2008, 12:50:59 AM
Just got back from the 12:00 AM showing. My 100% heartfelt, honest, no exaggeration assessment... Please don't waste your hard earned money. It's the worst movie I've ever paid money to see. Period. It's MST3K worthy.  [bang]

terrible, terrible script
no plot whatsoever
shite visual effects
HORRIBLE foley work, esp. the car crashes
very, very predictable
no real climax
way too over the top-tried too hard for action and got cheesy

It's late. I'm tired. Will go into more detail tomorrow.

Couldn't agree more. Among all the movie's flaws, what seemed to strike me most was the predictability part over all the other ones.  Lack of climax is from this. I noticed they plugged in way too many cliches too.

For those motivated to see it, I wouldn't do so right away. For those on the fence, not worth it.

First of all I am a Huge IJ fan. He is my favorite Character of all time. That being said...

I was so so disappointed.  [bang]  [bang]  [bang]

It makes Temple of Doom look like a masterpiece.

I just need to put it in my head than IJ ended with the Last Crusade.

The movie was laughable  >:( It didn't even feel like a IJ film.

You know, it didn't start out awful IMO.  What I saw was a film that began as a Spielberg and ended as a Lucas.  But yeah, the story was crapola.

Oxley drove me crazy. I wanted him to die so bad in the movie and Marion had this stupid shit smile on her face the entire movie. What happened to the strong woman in Raiders.

I liked Harrison Ford and Shia was okay but you can only do so much with a crap script.

who's bright idea was to turn Shia into tarzan and catch up to the jeep like that. Thats just one of the many laughable segments of the film.

But what should you expect when Lucas wanted to call the movie Indiana Jones and the Attack of the Saucer men.

WTF was with that ending also  [bang] Lame Lame Lame  [bang]

Thanks to all of you who took the bullet and have saved me from seeing such a POS.  I was 'on the fence' about seeing it knowing that today's Hollywood really likes to make the beast with two backs up old movies and I kinda like remembering the IJ series as it was.

Reminds of the time (after college and not high on plant-products) I tried Fruity-Pebbles.  In my mind, I remembered them much more fondly then how they tasted that night.  Yuk.  It was worse than just a bad taste (literally in my mouth), it destroyed the memory of the time when I did like them.

So, to you brave souls...   [drink]
I thank you.

Worse than TOD??? Wow. Maybe I'll wait until it's on video - in about a month.

But Fruity Pebbles make the beast with two backsing rule, Stu. Don't dis the pebs.  ;D

I was fine with the movie up until the last 15 minutes.  I was prepared for the movie to be blah compared to the originals, so I was ok until the very end.  Can anyone explain it to me, because I don't get it.  IJ has always had some fantasy (you know - your face will melt if you drink from the wrong cup), but this was so over the top ridiculous.

I heard it was pretty bad, but watched it yesterday just for the sake of Harrison ford being in it.  The turning point when the movie just lost it was the Shia-Tarzan scene.... WTH.

A survey of the "professionals" say otherwise: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/indiana_jones_and_the_kingdom_of_the_crystal_skull/ <--79% as of this posting.

I personally enjoyed it for what it was... but if you're thinking it's going to be the Last Crusade or something, then you have the wrong attitude, and you'll feel disappointed. The plot was a bit too X-files for me, but I like X-files... just not in my Indy movies. Granted the first three were a somewhat X-files too (or the other way around). Throughout the movie, I was expecting Dana Scully to come in an tell us that there's a perfectly normal scientific explanation for the inter-dimensional travel. Bah.

But, I still enjoyed it. Weird, eh? I think it's because I consider it another brainless summer movie that will be fun to look at, the dialogue was OK. Still, Shia was two dimensional and thus underutilized, but despite Harrison Ford looking like he was about to collapse every single second, he played Indy to my satisfaction.

If you're a fan, you have to watch it because you'll always wonder if it wouldn't have been better in the theater.... just don't expect too much.

+1. Definitely a bad scene. It's as bad as "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" in Star Wars Episode III.

High altitude plus a couple of drinks will make it Oscar-worthy.  ;D
I've seen some movies on flights thinking "hey, that wasn't bad at all", then watching them at home revealed that they were indeed garbage.

I find it amusing that the worst of the 4 movies is going to make the most Box Office Money.

The 5 day total worldwide is over 300 million  ???

True, but look how much they charge for a movie now compared to when Raiders came out 27 years ago.

True

The average ticket price in 1981 was $2.78 and in 2007 it was $6.88 according to Boxofficemojo.com

But in 1981 the movie cost 18 million to make and IJ4 cost 185 Million. Now those numbers don't work out for inflation.
I personally like the non CGI look of Raiders versus IJ4. Apparently Lucas, Spielberg and Ford do not start seeing money till the movie hits 400 million.

In order to get the movie made they sacrificed much of there salary up front.

6.88?  Thats a bargain!  havent seen those prices around these parts since the 90's.  More like 9.50 a movie here.

Kickin myself in the azz for contributing $20 that POS movie 3 weeks ago!!    [bang]

The family wanted to see it though and me being the good host I am..

I gave in..knowing I would regret it!!  [roll]

The reason I bring this up is because I'm watching the original IJ movie right now.  The first 15 minutes of it beats everything Crystal Skull had to offer!

Hollywood ruins everything!  >:(

Golden opportunity missed.

Want to make a new movie. Fine. Just cast someone else. keep it in the 40s. The James Bond movies are generally bad,.. but they have NO problems changing 'Bonds' every couple of movies.

Why not do the same for Indiana Jones.

Threadjack! Who should the new/old Indy be?
