Title: ECU Question for a Monster s2r 800 Post by: TimJohannsen on May 22, 2008, 03:48:02 AM If anyone could help me this would be great!
I bought an 05 monster s2r 800 from a guy. Originally I wasn't going to purchase the bike because he only had one black key for the system. I told him I'd buy it if he replaced the ECU. So he did. I road it and checked it out. The ECU seemed to have no problems as far as I knew. It did stall frequently and didn't ride smoothly so at the time of purchase he took another $300 off. I bought it...took it home...and it still continued to stall and not run great. When I took it to the dealership they informed me that the ECU was not for a monster at all but for a multistrada. They suggested I replace the ECU...but I really don't have the money to do that. Will the multistrada ECU be a problem for this bike? Any insight would be great. You could bandaid fix the situation w/ a custom dyno-tuned pc3, starting w/ a map from a multi.. It would end up costing you around $500-600 all said and done. perhaps it's time for a DP ECU specific to the S2R 800. good luck Q Title: Re: ECU Question for a Monster s2r 800 Post by: TimJohannsen on May 22, 2008, 05:51:52 AM I'm pretty sure the multi was never an 800. I'm trying to figure out what to do while spending as little money as possible. I just want to be able to ride the bike without problems...and I obviously don't want to do damage to the bike. Do you have a red key? Title: Re: ECU Question for a Monster s2r 800 Post by: TimJohannsen on May 22, 2008, 07:02:44 AM Can you post up what markings are on the ECU? Do you have a red key? I do have the red key. The ECU says "MTS 1000" Title: Re: ECU Question for a Monster s2r 800 Post by: Speeddog on May 22, 2008, 08:07:40 AM Very good that you've got the red key. :)
If that really is an MTS1k ECU, yeah, it won't run well. Ducati isn't particularly diligent about properly marking the ECUs, but likely that's what it is. Options: You could buy the DP ECU, if there is one made for the S2R800, has to be a virgin unit. Or, an aftermarket Ultimap/FIM U59, those are fully adjustable and very nice. Not a lot of folks around that can tune it. The *proper* S2R800 ECU, but it has to be a virgin unit as well. Maybe another option or two, but I think that's it. Sorry, it's a Ducati Performance ECU. :) Title: Re: ECU Question for a Monster s2r 800 Post by: TimJohannsen on May 22, 2008, 02:52:24 PM Sorry, it's a Ducati Performance ECU. :) oh, do you know how much they sell for? would i need to go through the dealer? thanks for your help. Title: Re: ECU Question for a Monster s2r 800 Post by: Speeddog on May 22, 2008, 04:44:27 PM I don't know how much they are, usually the 'kit' where they come with the cans is a good deal.
Check with your local dealer first for price and availability. Title: Re: ECU Question for a Monster s2r 800 Post by: phildo on June 13, 2008, 02:31:22 PM I unfortuntly know how much they are.
The ECU fried out on my m1000. The DP ECU alone was $1300. I refused to be raped by Ducati like that so I opted for the U59 and mapper software. So for less $$ I now have a fully mapabale ECU. If you can go this route, i would do it in a heart beat. its like a DP ECU and PCIII in one. you loose your immbolizer though. and you can get whatever custom gauges you want, if you want. =D Plus its tuneable by almost anyone. Title: Re: ECU Question for a Monster s2r 800 Post by: clubhousemotorsports on June 13, 2008, 06:00:25 PM One check to see if you do have a mts1000 ecu will be to see at what rpm the limiter kicks in at. the 1000 (and 1100) motors are lower than the 800 motors.
I cannot remember the actual numbers but I bet you can get a few .... dozen DMF'rs to test theirs out for you. [clap] Title: Re: ECU Question for a Monster s2r 800 Post by: XJBaylor on June 13, 2008, 10:40:37 PM You might see if you can sell the MTS ECU and put the proceeds of the sale towards a new, correct, ECU.
