Post by: jimboecv on August 11, 2009, 08:03:27 PM
 [bow_down]  Totally wasted rock stars.
MC5 - Kick Out The Jams (http://www.veoh.com/browse/videos/category/music/watch/v3084384ksgtr8eH)

Great band...but not exactly what I'd call punk. Too early for that. I especially love American Ruse [thumbsup]

Yeah but somebody's got to be the first, right?  Those guys could play fast!

jim is correct ... the mc5 are usually credited as being THE proto punk band.

although, one can make the point that the punk formula (short songs, played really fast) can be credited other to bands such as:

the 13th floor elevator
them
the kinks
the who
the velvet underground
the stooges
new york dolls
lou reed
patti smith
richard hell
tom verlaine
and other even more obscure artists

And so recorded.
I'd say The Stooges top that list, then The Ramones.  I hate Patti Smith.

More winners.  (I can't believe this stuff even exists)
