Title: anyone know the stats on petrol theft by bikers? Post by: Spider on August 12, 2009, 08:02:26 PM this 'you have to dismount the motorcycle' to refuel rule that the companies are now enforcing due to 'safety' (although none of the station managers want to engage in free thought as to what is 'safe')....so....anyone here work for a petrol company? exactly .how much fuel is being stolen by motorcyclists with the old 'fill and run' routine (that I have never heard of!).
I know I'm old and grumpy...but to me it seems like only the store managers are the ones enforcing it...the staff don't seem to care...whilst the ones with a TINY amount of power are trying to wield it. Which one of you d!ckheads dropped the bike and had gas go everywhere??? [roll] Title: Re: anyone know the stats on petrol theft by bikers? Post by: mattyvas on August 12, 2009, 08:16:04 PM Can't tell you the stats but sometime back one servo I was at wouldn't let me fill
so i left and went two doors up and filled while still on board and even paid for it. Title: Re: anyone know the stats on petrol theft by bikers? Post by: Big T on August 12, 2009, 08:41:43 PM Only time I have come across the "dismount to fill" is at the Shell servo at Eastern Creek. Had the "lady" come on over the loud speaker and request that "the rider at pump 3 please dismount before fueling"....
Normally I fill up mounted and enter the servo with helmet on (due to ear plugs coming a drift when removing)..... And only once has the attendant request I remove my helmet which I did politely cause they asked nicely..... All this pissed me off at first, but now, what the hell if it takes me 60 seconds longer to fuel up.... Far more important things to worry about (dickhead drivers for one).... [moto] Title: Re: anyone know the stats on petrol theft by bikers? Post by: Betty on August 12, 2009, 08:51:29 PM Far more important things to worry about Like being able to keep your feet on the ground and still reach the nozzle. Can't say I have ever felt the need to fill up while still on the bike. As for taking your helmet off to pay for fuel ... paying for fuel is a girl's job. Title: Re: anyone know the stats on petrol theft by bikers? Post by: mattyvas on August 12, 2009, 08:55:31 PM So you never pay for fuel then Betty!
Your the Bastid who has got us into trouble then. Title: Re: anyone know the stats on petrol theft by bikers? Post by: Jukie on August 12, 2009, 08:58:45 PM he he he i do all the good jobs [roll]

Sorry Matty didn't mean to suggest that you were a girl (although it would seem you are no longer taking the Monster on Sunday), but don't worry I put more than my fair share towards the petrol bill. Or are you talking about trouble after three S4Rs were seen leaving a remote petrol station without paying ... the establishment in question was later to sustain fire damage following an apparent arson attack. That sort of thing is bound to get you into trouble. But seriously I can't wait to have someone back riding with me to take care of all those womanly chores. Title: Re: anyone know the stats on petrol theft by bikers? Post by: bazz20 on August 12, 2009, 09:06:27 PM jukie your too good for him ;D

Answer that and generally it is the same reason that some of these clowns in the servos chuck orders around at the public!! [roll] But sitting on the bike aint a good idea safety wise, If you spill fuel on yer nads whoever tries to catch you will have to dab some on their pills to attain the same velocity as you. And if ignition happens you will be the item of most charring. ! So I can understand that, but this get yer helmet off crap. PHUGM!! I've been hassled about removing my helmet while holding a $50 note and being told I could be there to rob them. ??? So I told them to make me remove it and asked if they would like to take my money. They wouldnt take my money until I removed my lid, Ummmm WTF?? That just made me more stubborn and pissed at their stupidity. I go to Mobil, swipe my card and ride out and smile sweetly at the generally sour face behind the window. FarQ. [thumbsup] Title: Re: anyone know the stats on petrol theft by bikers? How do you think you would feel getting paid 37 cents an hour to look after someone else's business and watching people just about to go out and enjoy a day of riding and then occasionally having some helmet wearing dickhead coming in and waving a weapon ... I may tend towards caution on occasion too. Title: Re: anyone know the stats on petrol theft by bikers? Post by: mostro900 on August 12, 2009, 11:23:03 PM same situation with using a mobile whilst filling up. Never been proven that a mobile phone could cause the petrol station to blow up, but I've had the pump shut off by the attendant more than once for that infringement.
Been asked only once to remove the helmet, not nicely, so now I just go elsewhere. Title: Re: anyone know the stats on petrol theft by bikers? Post by: Q777 on August 13, 2009, 12:50:06 AM On the day I took bike in to get it registered, I stopped in at the local servo for a top-up. First time I'd put fuel in, so I wanted to get in as much as possible to see what the tank range was. Sitting on the bike while refuelling, helmet on, gloves still on, bike with no rego label or number plate. Jeez, that got their attention. The guy behind the counter came running out to have a go at me.
In hindsight, it must have looked pretty dodgey... Title: Re: anyone know the stats on petrol theft by bikers? Been asked only once to remove the helmet, not nicely, so now I just go elsewhere. Didn't Mythbusters completely disprove the mobile phone + petrochemical gases = bang scenario. And I seem to remember the spam mail about servos blowing up was found to be all urban myths too. I think Dragon is on to something - I used to work in a servo (back in the dark ages when there used to be driveway service!) and it was more to do with the possibility of spilling fuel on sensitive bits rather than theft. And the helmet thing - at my local I walk past the sign on the door with helmet still on and no one has (yet) said anything - get funny looks from the locals but that's only cos they got two heads and I haven't!!! Title: Re: anyone know the stats on petrol theft by bikers? Post by: Spider on August 13, 2009, 01:51:15 AM OK....so I should get off the bike...you've converted me! now....do I stand between the bike and the bowser...so I park 3 feet away and then stand in that space???
Title: Re: anyone know the stats on petrol theft by bikers? Post by: Betty on August 13, 2009, 02:35:53 AM Bike tilted towards the bowser to avoid the dribbles.

And I seem to remember the spam mail about servos blowing up was found to be all urban myths too. I think the Myth team did do something around that. Now Heather, working in a servo and doing drive service - I can only imagine a long queue of cars !!
