I stopped playing W@W. I'm just about ready to preorder Modern Warefare 2

I suspected a there were a couple out there.
I should have specified...World at War, though I too have pre-ordered the new one, due in November. I am way more excited about that than a man my age should be about a video game.

I hadn't played it online either (mostly do to my anti-social nature) until I reconnected with an old friend via Facebook. We now "meet" regularly online and attempt to slay the competition in Team Deathmatch. I gotta tell ya' it is great fun.

So the reason started this thread is twofold;
1) I wondered if anyone else in Hawaii is experiencing "lag" as of late and
2) I wonderd if any of you would like to get a DMF CoD thing going. After gaming with my buddy, I find it kinda dull when he is not on. But he lives on the east coast so it makes it difficult.

I've played the wii version, because I am a lame-o wii owner.  I suck in ways that cannot be described in mixed company.

eventually, I will have internet at home...

We have a Wii also...but I didn't even know they made CoD for it.
The SO and I do tennis, baseball, etc. on the Wii. I definitely bought thing on a whim.

I'm not in Hawaii, actually Florida, but there is a connection from the CDC to you guys... you know who you are. Anyway, I try to play every day. Been playing CoD MW more, but I'm willing to go back to W@W to help you guys beat up on the 12 year olds. I'm usually pretty good, average top 3, in Team Deathmatch. I was also pretty good at War. I haven't played it on the x-box much but have it on my MacBook. Love the game and spent a lot of down time in Afghanistan playing.

So you were in a combat zone playing a "shooter" video game?  I find that incredibly ironic.

Well, when you need to "shoot 'em up", you need to "shoot 'em up".  You would be surprised though, lots of people in this/that line of work play games of this nature.  As silly as it may sound, it helps to keep reaction times down and hand-eye coordination high.

That is actually good news.
So when I am getting my ass whipped on CoD it is not necessarily by a home bound twelve year old with no friends...
I might simply be receiving a beating from someone that does it professionally.

the only game vs. RL thing that bothered me was paintball.

it's like, the coolest FPS, since you're running around and toolin' guys... so why would you want to play a paintball computer game???

Though i did jump from level 12 to level 21 in a few hours yesterday.

i went from getting 0-1 kills per game to getting 7-10.

playing the single player mode actually really helps.

working on getting through it on hardened, as well as through the spec-ops

I've gotten the single stars in just about all the spec ops. None of my friends like spec ops, so it's hard to get through them for the second star.

i haven't done the spec-ops part. can you do it co-op style online or do you have to be on the same machine?

Co-op baby!! But freaking Teddy doesn't show up until super late (right coast time). I've only seen him online when I was "working" late.

yes, you can either split-screen or co-op online.

also found out on saturday that I could migrate my profile to my buddy's xbox so we were split-screen AND it saved my progress  [thumbsup]

It is also official: juggernauts SUCK... especially when I kill all five because marc is running away  [laugh]

and i tend to flash bang myself a lot when i need to press the melee button. they are nowhere near each other, but i somehow manage to do it about 50% of the time.  :-[

I think it might be a bug. I flash bang myself when I go prone. It might just be the way I hold the control.

yes, as long as you hold down the button, you'll cook a frag.

good side= if they pick it up to throw it back, it may blow up in their hand

bad side= 5 seconds of holding on will kill you  :)

it's awesome for riot shields, though most people dont' carry those more than once.
it's also good for throwing on the ceiling to get people hiding behind boxes or something else. also, i don't think they can throw it back.

To tell you the truth, all the HD movies I ever rent are from on demand. I was actually considering a PS for a time, then I realized how much I would actually be using the Bluray player and decided against it. I also looked at the additional year of games the XBox had over the PS and the online experience. It was a close one just because of the Bluray.

i woulda gone with PS3 if they had made a new TT

but then on the ninth day, god created L4D

the reaon i went with the ps3 over the xbox was because of the bluray. i didn't want to get stuck with the HD player on the xbox (a big part of why i was buying a new system) and feel like a betamax owner.

my complete lack of HDness made the decision totally game-based.

Vizio is not a bad start. I got my Sony back in the day at Costco, so if you're a member, you might want to check them out as well.

the only sony they had were big... they had a 27" samsung that I cross-shopped to that vizio, but looking at 'em side by side, that 5" difference makes a big deal over the distance. although, I did like the samsung better.

I have a $200 GC for costco, which is why i was shopping there  :)

Nice. My 32" works great for my room. I contantly hear people say "go bigger", but I sit so close that everything is within sight.

HDMI cable is a must! I used the RCA cables for a long time until my brother convinced me to buy it. Night and day.

There's always an excuse to suck. I find myself getting killed 20+ times and then wondering what I was doing during the game. That's generally when I shut down the box.

well, if I at least marginally improve, I suppose that's a good thing anyway.

First time I played CoD4, I did not kill anyone the first 5 games. I had been playing Halo for a while ans thought I could kill anyone. I quit for 5 months until my brother talked me back

Dude, I had two extra HDMI cables and gave them both to Tony.  He's probably only use one, so you can likely take the other.

I imagine that one end is xbox specific?  microsoft couldn't possibly make things THAT easy for us consumerists

Yea, My buddy works at best buy, and they get the $80 monster cables for $4.50 the markup is disgusting!

I love Monster cable for certain applications, but for HDMI it's quite the overkill.

i also ganked 2 enemy care packages.

my friend and i are having a race to see who can hit 70 first, lol.

I had a fan that worked great for 5 years. I know quite a few people that got it within the 3 year warranty. Mine took 5 years to die. Some sort of external cooling is a definite. I use the Nyko intercooler and it'snot too expensive.

$15 for 5 maps is a bit much for me too.

I don't think mine has a thermal sensor. Turns on when I start the XBox on. Shuts down when it's off. Loud as make the beast with two backs.

iirc, it's the newest one... seperate power supply and senses when to turn off and on. so it can cool the box down even after you shut down

potential downside was that it blocks the exhaust vents while it's off

i think the laptop mats are built to pull hot air away from the laptop (or xbox), but i could be wrong

The best would be if you put a fan blowing air underneath and then a fan suckin air at the back, then it's constantly cooling the system

the fans are ducted to the heat sinks... I assumed the rear fans were exhaust?
