That`s about the only good thing about them :P
The new version of Google Maps finally shows your current location on the map. This works without GPS functionality just like magic! I'd avoid the whole Google Installer suite because I have seen computability problems here on our enterprise network but you can download each app individually depending on what you need.
Don't forget Magmic free games like Texas Hold Em Poker, Spider Solitaire, and Bass Fishing... yay video fishing!
Oh! If you travel a lot:

my best tip, run over it, destroy it, and move on with your life
also, to not become a crack-addict:
You can set the device to turn itself off and turn back on a certain times of the day/weekend.
For example, you can "force" the device to turn itself off at 8pm and back on a 7am...you can even use differnt times for the weekend.

My condolences… Was this voluntary?

Nope the Google apps work with the stock blackberry. If you modify the exhaust you need a BlackBerry PCIII.

Okay then, I'm a retard. When I go to www.google.com/mobile on my device and try to download Google Maps gives options for Palm OS, Windows Mobile, etc but I don't see the Blackberry option.

Okay, so I just talked with two different ATT reps. One said that GPS usage is covered in my unlimited data plan. One said that there is a separate GPS plan for $10/month.
What do you folks get charged?
[bang]
sac
$10/mo for GPS.

For ATT the $10 is for TeleNav service, I believe. You should be able to just download google maps and it should work for free with your data plan. No additional costs, cause the GPS is not disabled by ATT. For Verizon users, you have to pay the $10 a month for the VZNavigator.
Enjoy

whats your high score on brickbreaker?
Christ!! that Blackberry Curve is all the s/o is talking about..for the past 2 weeks now! She currently has a crap phone and wants this thing as soon as we move.
It sounds like I should be trying to talk her out of it by the responses I've read on here?!

Nearly 10k.
Much further and my legs go numb and its time to get off the porcelain thrown and go back to work. [laugh]
TeleNav is better for driving directions and re-routing around traffic jams. AT&T should give you a free trial month.
If I just need to get mileage for billing or directions for a later trip or from a different starting point, I do like google maps and Y! go maps.
(Haven't played much on the new phone, but the old one I hit @ 9,700)

That is correct.
I realize this is the 8130, but it's a great site for apps, their problems, how to fix, etc. I'm sure most of them will run on any blackberry.

Dude you should have gone with the Palm Treo. You can run Google maps on that too, plus the BART quick planner and play monopoly while your on the train. Its got Mail, voice memo, Internet, wireless sync, Mp3, Pictures, Infrared beaming, an SD Card slot, and all kinds of stuff...

my BB has all of that stuff except the infrared. And I like the keyboard way better.

i cna't believe it took me a couple of days to realize that i could look up porn on my phone. that's as much fun to do on the train as plkaying brick breaker. i just wish i could watch videos. for some reason i cna't get any to play.
btw, i'm with sprint and pay $50/mo for unlimited data, nav, and the other things that make getting a blackberry or any of the other similar phones worth it.

The new Palm Centro is badass, and has the Palm O/S and not the shitty windows mobile platform
I thought the BB could play youtube vids, no?

I recently got a BB 8830WE (I'm posting this from it right now) and I love it. I haven't tried playing any videos yet. YouTube here I come...

I'm not 100% sure but I think it has to do with most video's being in Flash and most mobile devices not supporting it. You can probably check youtube to check. If you can watch video's there then you should be set. I was getting excited to get an iphone thinking I'd be able to watch vids but then I found out that there's no flash support so no vids, and that the youtube app they have was specifically written for them so that's why it has youtube.
i can't do anything that required java, and i havne't tried anything that i knew was flash.
if youtube is flash then i cna't do flash either. :'(
Be aware that the GPS has to be "unlocked" or "enabled" by a dealer for the google maps thing to work. With that done you can use the google maps thingy for free (with your data plan). I like it better than the telenav.
Get a memory card for it. Then you can use it as an mp3 player in your car, etc.
The videos must be in mp4 format to play.
The more I learn about my 8310, the more I like it. My gf has a Palm Treo and I'm not fond of it. And she keeps losing the stylus.
I also just got the Sirius XM radio Mobile thingy. Decent. We'll see how I end up liking it...
I've had good luck with this site (thanks to Bick's forwarding me the link) http://crackberry.com/
The only thing I don't like about my 8310 is that it needs additional software (not free stuff) to run PDFs.
The s/o just talked me into going to Verizon. :-\ We came out with 2 BB Curve phones..8830C.
Right now..I'm not too excited about the thing but it has everything.
We finally dropped T-Mobile after several years. That's what I'm most happy about. [thumbsup]
I am so done with Black Berrys. I used them at work for as long as I can remember.
Now I just use my Iphone. My fiancee is interested in getting the new curve though so we are going to go check it out in a few minutes.
Don't get them wet or put'em in the pocket of your jacket when riding.
So I just played with the black Berry curve for about 30 minutes and I really don't like it.
The trackball on it feels really gritty and not smooth at all. The screen looks lower quality as well.
Since they were saying it was as nice as the Iphone screen I would have to disagree.
Yeah I know its not suppose to compete with an Iphone but after browsing the entire Verizon store and all the current phones I found nothing that even came close to replacing my Iphone and I am not a apple fan boy either. I normally stay away from apple products.
I didn't even like the LG Voyager. The touch screen was a huge disappointment and lots of the applications don't even utilize the whole screen.
I've had a BB for 3 years. Originally got it so I could get e-mail (essential to my business). Switched from Nextel to Verizon 6 months ago because Nextel service- and I'd been a Nextel guy for over 5 yrs.- was getting progressively worse once Sprint acquired them. With the change to Verizon, I got an 8703e.
I like it. Or, maybe I'm just used to it. It's an OK cellphone. I get e-mail. Along with some of my clients, I make extensive use of Blackberry Messaging. It's my alarm clock. Battery life is good. My calendar is an excel sheet which I keep on my laptop, but I also keep a copy on the BB.
It's a good tool. And, I keep it turned off on weekends so I don't have to deal with annoying clients.
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGH!!!! >:(
I just got my 4G SanDisk MicroSD media card in the mail today and my 8310 won't format it. It is installed correctly and I have the Mass Storage Mode off. You geniuses have any guesses?

Try turning the mass storage mode on. That's how mine is set up and it works fine.

No dice. :(
I assume you power-cycled the phone, just in case.
Media card support = on?
Connected it to your computer and checked for a firmware upgrade?
I'm shooting in the dark here, but good luck. :-\
Pull the battery. I had to do that with mine for some applications. Worst case scenario, post problem at Crackberry.com

Also, if someone hasn't mentioned it, load OperaMini as a web browser; it works great. Also, get whoever works on this board to create a mobile.html version; we have one at the Coastal Ducati Club, and it has upped my posting-to-breathing ratios tremendously. I see some people are bagging on the Crackberry, but I love my Curve 8310. There is no way to avoid getting addicted. Oooh...if you get the wife one, you guys can use the two-way radio feature!!!

hey sac, you need the newer version of the OS, the default only supports up to 2G. I have a pearl and held off getting the 4g chip until the corporate gods support that version
