Why yes,
yes I do hate sushi.
I just can't warp my mind around the idea of eating something that I would otherwise use for bait.
\I also can't deal with the textures.
The faux sushi the article speaks of is more appetizing to me than any real sushi I've ever had the priveledge of refusing.

What kind of sushi are you eating????
Sushi is cool. Its kind of like lunch on the go. instead of eating a ricebox with a side of whatever. you get it in a nice to go package.

I just thought the candy stuff was funny.

Urchin is one of my favorites and if it has a spongy texture to you then you are eating some nasty Uni =)
It should be firm with a creamy taste to it. Sort of melts in your mouth.

Mackerel=Awesome!
My sister is a writer. She wrote a sidebar for Cosmo a few years ago with a similar idea.
She used Rice Crispy Treat in place of sushi rice and chopped up candy bars for filling to make a sort of dessert California roll.
I do like the use of the Swedish Fish, tho. That's a nice touch.

Sushi fantastic.
Only thing I haven't been a fan of is eel [puke]
I love me some sushi. There's a good 100Y sushi joint down the road that beats most sushi places stateside. And, I've got a couple of the "real" restaurants that I frequent as well. The delivery isn't bad. Depends on how early you order and if the guy can find your house quickly (delivery time is usually less than 30min).
I've enjoyed the shamu sushi. Mr. Ed wasn't bad. BUt, I'm not sure it'd constitute as sushi. Both usually have too much minced ginger on top though to mask the flavor.
a sushi place near me had two guys out with placards advertising
one had a "Nemo" suit on.
I couldn't stop laughing all the way home
i just assumed it was immigrant owned and they got a fish costume not realizing....

a japanese restaurant opened in town about 6 months ago,
and we no longer have to drive a half hour for sushi.
i only like the rolls.
someone told me you aren't supposed to put the ginger on it,
you're supposed to eat a small piece in between to clear your palate.
anyone know if this is true?

That's how I do it.
Mix some wasabi & soy sauce and use that as a dip for the sushi, eat the ginger in between.

+1, it's for in between...
there's this one place in honolulu where the chef won't let you use the wasabi. and he tells you which ones to use shoyu, but if there is supposed to be wasabi, he puts it in there. and he watches you eat.
but everthing is tops, so sushi nazi FTW!

My favorite is an 'Irish Roll' with tempura potato in the middle of the roll. We also call that the french fry roll.
The Koreans make some good stuff. The most common version has some veggies and cooked pork. Kim pap.
I hate the sashimi.

You're also not supposed to add wasabi to the soy sauce, and a soy sauce dip should be very light, if needed at all...don't soak it. The sushi chef constructs the sushi how they want you to eat it. Adding wasabi/soy sauce screws up their intended flavor and texture balance.
That said...I only follow this rule at nice sushi places. If I pick up some from the local market, or in a lunch bento box...I mix wasabi and soy and dip away. [cheeky]
to the question, yes - the pickled ginger is to cleanse the palate between flavors. But, there are some sushi dishes that have shredded ginger (not pickled slices) placed on top. This is usually to offset a flavor or smell of what you're eating. Not because it's bad - but because it's the way they want it to taste.
There are places out here that add wasabi (delivery does unless you ask not to). The 100Y doesn't put it on any of theirs. But, it's available at the table. The nicer places will add or remove upon request. But, will usually make it as they see fit if you don't say anything. And, if you're American, they try to ask if you want it.
As far as adding shoyu, it really is up to the person eating. I don't like the shoyu on my sushi. I like the flavor of the fish. Ol girl likes shoyu.
