Title: 1198 v 1098 v Streetfighter Post by: BretMorris on August 17, 2009, 03:19:53 PM I know this isnt a Ducati Monster question but I am starting to get serious about buying a new toy. The jetski is for sale and I have some cash floating around....I was thinking of trading the S4R in on a Streetfighter but I am not really in love with the look of the Streetfighter. So I have been thinking of keeping the S4R and getting a superbike. The issue for me is whether to try and get a very low kms 1098 for around the $24K or buy a new 1198s for around $35k on road. I know the 1198s will be the better bike but given I am not a racer and I dont do track days I am thinking the 1098 will give me all the bike I really need....... Or should I just buy the 1198s.
Any comments? Bret Title: Re: 1198 v 1098 v Streetfighter Post by: mattyvas on August 17, 2009, 03:46:11 PM Depends on how much you want to drop on the 2nd bike.
I know a few people who have changed 1098-1198 and they say the 1198 is smoother and the bike the 1098 should of been. Will you feel the difference between both bikes, maybe. Will you care when you are out riding, maybe not. What you will have is a great bike in the 1098 and $10k to spend on bling! I suppose I should have said in my original post is that I am a weekend rider, mainly sunny days on a Sunday morning to a coffee shop and back. It wont be a commuter or a racing bike through the foothills of Adelaide. I suppose it is for show and the fact that I love Ducatis. I am thinking a really good 1098 with Termis with less than 5000kms on the clock and $10,000 in my pocket sounds really good to me... Save yourself some money, still has the looks and the sound, arguably better handling, and a power (not so big) deficit that you wont worry about because, as you say, you'll never really use it for "racing throguh the foothills"...

Title: Re: 1198 v 1098 v Streetfighter Post by: feral on August 17, 2009, 09:31:42 PM I think you should get the streetfighter S I will give you a list of extras and when you dont like it I will buy it off you for a lesser value of cause.....

Unless your Troy, your not going to be able to ride it anywhere near its limits anyway. Just think of the xtra bling you can buy with the money you save :) Title: Re: 1198 v 1098 v Streetfighter Post by: Spider on August 17, 2009, 11:12:55 PM ...if I get the chance to buy an SBK and keep the Monster it would be an 848.... then I'd be buying an Ohlins DU515 for another $800, having the front showa's have cartridges, springs custom valving. Zard system on the back and.....money for the chiropractor [thumbsup] How much did I just save you? and you have an 848s....perfect for that ride you're discussing! Besides I know someone who has his eye on them ;) Title: Re: 1198 v 1098 v Streetfighter Post by: BretMorris on August 20, 2009, 02:09:01 AM I think i will be in the market for a low kms 1098 with a nice set of Termis soon. Would love to find one with less than 5000kms to go in the shed with the S4R.
Title: Re: 1198 v 1098 v Streetfighter Post by: Zee on August 20, 2009, 05:16:56 AM So, you and a mate are sitting at Mecca, one of you has a Multi, the other an 848/1098/1198.
You are both casually sipping coffee, bikes parked in "pole position", and Naomi walks in, says hi to the boys behind the bar, and realises she needs to be in Newtown in 5 minutes. Who's bike do you think she would rather* be seen on? *Assuming she does not know that a Ducati Hypersport will snap her spine and tenderise her glutes... Or wait for the new Multi..... [cheeky] [cheeky] Well somebody had to say it..... ;D ;D Title: Re: 1198 v 1098 v Streetfighter Post by: Dannog on August 20, 2009, 01:40:27 PM I'd be pricing the parts on that machine before I jumped on it! I don't know but according to Pickles these Desmo's only have 2 cyclinders! I wonder if the other 2 were damaged along with the front end. [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]. Besides I know someone who has his eye on them ;) I wonder what the excess was for these beauties :'( :'( :'( Title: Re: 1198 v 1098 v Streetfighter Post by: mattyvas on August 20, 2009, 02:16:39 PM How much was your bike Dannog!
We'll just use that as a guide to excess.
