Title: "the road that shall not be named" ride june 14-15 - you missed it!!
Post by: derby on May 22, 2008, 08:50:14 AM
it seems some people have never gone this route.

so... who wants to do a pre-motogp jaunt up the doble tre?

somebody has already offered up his brother's place in paso robles so we could do a 2-day trip for the weak wristed.  ;D

we also have a place to stay in pismo... thanks gus!

that would also mean doing the "funnest road in cali"...  [thumbsup]

any interest?

I'm interested. I think it could be fun to get a nice group ride together.

Anybody know the longest distance between gas stops? If I were to take the motard I am limited to about 80 miles between fill ups.

derbypedia for sure will have a better idea but i'm gonna guess that might actually be a problem

Yep that is what I am thinking too. Seems like there is about a 100 mile stretch in there somewhere. Derby must actually be working at the moment, or mapping his route to Mtoto GP.

~71 miles from the ojai 76 to maricopa.

~6-ish miles to taft

~89 miles from taft to atascadero.

i suppose we could figure out something for ya.

don't they make a real gastank for that?  ;D

Hmm, descisions decisions  [evil] They do actually make a larger tank for the KTM but as it is mainly a toy I don't think I will be upgrading. Depending on throttle use I can get 100 miles with the reserve included but where is the fun in riding conservative?

As for the Monster that will most likely be the ride of choice though it still has the extremly leaky gas tank so I am not sure that is going much further between fill ups  ;D  This is hopefully to be remedied soon but probably not before any fun road ride (but the tach did get fixed as soon as I got home from Costa Rica). If not the  Monster there is always the option of the GSXR so I think I'll be ok  ;)

on the way up, have your brother wait at the end of the 58 w/ a quick gallon for ya.

or you could get something like these:

or have you seen these:

Those are both quite clever options. I think it might be illegal to not have a headlight though  ;) The REI ones seem like a very good solution to extended range.

so are you NOT inclined if it's not a 1-day?

i have no problem with a 1-day trip. the 2-day was only proposed for the people that may not wanna do 400 miles in a day.

Im in for the 14th & 15th & I have nice lodging avail. for us in Pismo Beach...... we could dine Ffri. night @ Guisseppe's & then head over to Harry's to see if Madden's in town & let Derby work his magic ;)

House has a great ocean view as well so we could always cook out there & enjoy the sunset & watch the ambulance on it's frequent trips to the dunes [laugh]

Plenty of room if you don't mind sleeping on a couch or the floor.  Three bedrooms, one with two twin beds, the others with a full & a king.

I believe Luca is sleeping with me in the shower ;D

You're always welcome nomods [thumbsup]  Perhaps Binky will join us as well...

and BTW whats a "maybe list"...i dont get the point... [roll]

you either are in or your not...and if your not sure because of work family related events (totally understandable), then say "interested but dont count me in" (if you HAVE to say something) unless there is a good chanse of ou going so that who actually CAN go can assure himself a spot...and if in the end it turns out that you can come, good for you  [thumbsup] and if there is a free spot on a couch EVEN better  [moto]

is it just me?

the "maybe list" is OFFICIALLY the "TARiK LIST" from now on... :)

...and for that matter whats the point in an INTEREST LIST?!

what? after you have seen that 14 people are interested your going to call it off?  ;D [roll]

ps: inspite of the 2 tornados touching ground in East LA, here...not a cloud to be seen  [cheeky]

120+  miles

I usually start north of town, then head up the hill to Alta Sierra, then down over to Kernville for some grub, then back through the canyon to Bako.

I shot a video of the first 1/4 of the loop, from Bako to Glennville, I just need to figure out how to compress it before I can post it. The second 1/4, from Glennville to Alta Sierra, is a blast. It features a wide assortment of corners. [thumbsup]

Hey BP,

I was up that way this weekend.  Had lunch in Kernville Saturday and was impressed w/ the road that follows the river from Lake Isabella south-west toward Bako.  Too bad I wasn't on a bike... I was scouting trailheads for an upcoming Piute dirtbike adventure.

Derby's a little MIA with updating the first page but most of the people are listed in the first posting. Specific times have not been discussed/determined as far as I know.

Usually there is a meet up time at several points along the way where riders from various starting areas gather to head to the main starting point. I am not sure about Long Beach but there is certain to be a group going up from the Santa Monica area.

mostly, yes, and yes.

for that matter, how can a full on, un-modified street bike not be up for a road trip?

when it's already a couple hundred miles past service, don't have time to get it in before said trip, and said trip is a significant time/distance.

Long story short:
me: My project has a major milestone/deadline this week and I'm pulling a lot of hours.  A 2-day trip is not really appetizing at the moment, I need some downtime of the "not doing anything" variety.
s4r: Bike needs it's first service.  I haven't had time to get it to Nick's.
both: I've mentioned it before in passing, but I'm not really doing a lot of sporting riding on the street.  If I'm stressed and worried about road condition, traffic, other riders, bike setup, group pace etc then I'm not having fun and my head isn't in it.  Say what you will but I just don't enjoy it as much as the track. *shrug*  Am I fully stopping riding? not really, but _right now_ it's more of a commuting/buzzing around town thing than a bombing the canyons thing.

you kids have fun [thumbsup]

the main reason this was scheduled as a 2-day trip was to allow for the people that were concerned about the distance or want to go at their own pace. neither of the major roads on this route have much traffic (if any) and tom just did a siting lap yesterday and says the roads are in perfect condition.

first, on the way up, we have a few people that'd like to do lockwood/cerro (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=Lockwood+Valley+Rd+%26+Jacinto+Reyes+Scenic+Byway,+Ojai,+CA+93023&daddr=frazier+park,+ca+to:highway+33+and+cerro+noroeste+rd+,+maricopa,+ca&mra=pi&mrcr=1&sll=34.739044,-119.266184&sspn=0.78656,1.203003&ie=UTF8&z=10).

on the way back, we have an alternate route proposed that would take us to the solvang vintage motorcycle museum (http://www.motosolvang.com/).

thoughts?

no real reason to skip it unless it's rained recently and there is a river crossing near the junction point with the 33.  ;D

Just bring some deodorant & your toothbrush ;D  I'll take care of the rest.  Depending on how many people actually show up on Sat. you'll either be in a bed or a sleeping bag on a couch with a nice roof over your head.  If anybody likes to rough it, they can sleep outside on a lounge chair on the deck [laugh]

...hmmm...

altho the museum is appealing, it requires a sustansial non-curvy-freeway riding that i would most definitly like to avoid.

I would rather ride backwards on the same route...cerro and 33 are great in both directions...AND its like riding 2 different roads they are so different going one way or the other...

my .02

i think the idea was to avoid the freeway and take a different, yet equally curvy road to solvang.

this is just a guess based on the PM i got from gus, but i think that porttion of the return route would look something like this (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=458746250084987824,34.954670,-120.219470&saddr=Cuyama+Hwy+%26+Tepusquet+Rd,+Santa+Maria,+CA+93454&daddr=Tepusquet+Rd+%4034.954670,+-120.219470+to:Tepusquet+Rd+and+foxen+canyon+to:34.80281,-120.205536+to:solvang,+ca&mra=dpe&mrcr=1&mrsp=3&sz=13&via=1,3&sll=34.808025,-120.242271&sspn=0.097112,0.149002&ie=UTF8&ll=34.826768,-120.137558&spn=0.776714,1.192017&z=10).

those more familiar with the area will have to flesh out the proposed return route.

lucazuma- your idea kicks arse.  but out of curiosity, have you ever ridden East Camino Cielo?  It's sort of torn up, so the going wouldn't be wicked fast.  I don't know about the end toward the 33.  suprising as when we lived in SB we were always on the 33 of the 154 and even Camino (for pistol shooting), but I never put the two together.  Actually, I prolly ony ever went on Camino Cielo by bike once or twice.  Mostly that was rallye car fodder...  I'm not saying don't go that route, even the 154 up that way is fun, just letting you know you migh wanna add some time for that...  And not ride anything stiffer than a Monster

If I was "riding for the sake of riding"?  I'd say Lake Hughe Road to Pine Canyon Road to Lockwood Valley Road (gas in Frasier Park) to the "##" to Ojai (lunch stop? or not yet?) to the 150 to 101 to SB to 154 (soo many good choices right here.. Stagecoach parallels in a very unparallel manner the 154) to StageCoach Rd on SanMarcos Pass to the 154 to Armor Ranch Road to 154 to Foxen Cyn Rd to Tapusquet Rd to 166 to....  Where's it sposed to end?  I'd ridden these enough while I was up there to mostly just shoot north real early on a long day and run for the one, but I think that's a little north of our destination here.  If I knew how to draw it on a map, I'd do it...

Incidentally, Pine Canyon is in it's own right a more than average challenging road...  For different reasons, so is Stagecoach.  But if you find yourself going up the 154 Stagecoach is a great idea..

Aside from the return route, I did a gas station to gas station map in case anybody else is thinking about taking a a small tanked bike (hyper/supermotard).

Gas to Gas (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=2460+Auto+Center+Dr,+Oxnard,+CA+93036&daddr=1124+Maricopa+Hwy,+Ojai,+CA+93023+to:16300+Mil+Potrero+Hwy,+Frazier+Park,+CA+93225+to:1092+Kern+St+Taft,+CA+93268+to:2301+El+Camino+Real+Santa+Margarita,+CA+93453&sll=35.403883,-120.518303&sspn=0.196726,0.299377&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=9)

The original route had a different stop for gas at location C but I think the 75 miles there is less of a concern than the 84.3 between D and E. As far as I can tell D is the last gas point in Taft making the smallest possible distance 84.3 miles for that stretch.

Should be doable even with spirited riding ( I hope :-\)

your gas stop at C may or may not be open... the last time i ran through there (some time ago) they had closed down.

the ride between D and the left onto the 58 is pretty putt putt, so we can conserve fuel there.

OK, I'll be joining you all for the run from the base of Ojai out to the end of Cerro and back.
Day trip, day loop...so if there are any lurkers that want to join this trip, I'd be happy to ride with you and help follow the bread crumb trail back home.

By the way, there is no way in hell that you will be at the base of Ojai by 8:35 if you are to meet up at 8:00 in Ventura.  By the time you wait for all to arrive, gas up and roll out, see you at the Ojai station at 9!

it's a 30 minute "speed limit" ride from the 8:00 to 8:35 meetup. i was hoping to avoid ~20 minutes of standing around trying to figure out of people had flaked or were just running late. if you miss 8am (by much), just head for the ojai station.

We are in the middle of a move just now, but hopefully at the end of summer... And of course Fem-Moto and mayhap the Fem-Moto Trackday...  Don't know if we should bring one bike or two, it's confusing.  We are considering, if we don't head north, to jump into this ride, but I don't know where/how we'd stay etc etc...

Since we're going to be all the way up there can we take a slight detour from the 58 and ride Hwy 229 up into Creston and back? It's only five miles one way, but check out how cool it looks:

..actually i remember it being a SHELL station but i might be wrong...anyhow, if you are riding from RICE, you will be going acrass the 101 on an off ramp. The said station will be on your left...cant miss it...

if you are riding on the 101 going north, the exit is RICE ave/ SANTA CLARA...the station will be on your left...

check out the STALLITE map, it will give you a much better visual :)

I got to go for a "dry" run today on the KTM. 84.9 miles until it sputtered. 4 more on the reserve so far. The ride was about 1/2 canyons & 1/2 highway both at a moderate pace. I keep getting more and more confident about the gas situation.

Anybody else looking to do the ## to Lockwood/Cerro Noestre and then back down the ## to Ojai loop as a day ride on Saturday?

I need to be around on Sunday for dad's day, so can't do the overnight.  Would love to ride with y'all though, haven't done a group ride before.

I saw joekarati's post saying he's just going for the day, but wondering if there will be a few more of us turning around when the rest of you head up to Taft.  (Oh, and can I bring my buddy who rides a Sportster?  I assure you, he'll be able to keep up.  The two of us did a Topanga to Santa Cruz run recently, taking pretty much the exact route you're planning, and he was bombing through the curves all the way up and back...)

Signed,

Deeply Envious of Those Who Will Soon Be Riding the 58

somebody has already offered up his brother's place in paso robles so we could do a 2-day trip for the weak wristed.  ;D

we also have a place to stay in pismo... thanks gus!

that would also mean doing the "funnest road in cali"...  [thumbsup]

again, why do you have to be somewhere for 20-30 minutes before you leave?

iirc, it's a 25 minute ride from the gas station to the ojai 76. that gives you 10 minutes of jack-around time at the 8am meetup.

the timing of the 8:35 meetup is such that if you're running late (read: getting to the first meetup at 8:10a), you should probably just head for the ojai 76 instead.

it just tickles me that Captain Punctuality would make such a statement.

the schedule makes sense if you don't plan on spending 20 or 30 minutes at every place you stop.

the schedule for the 8a to 8:35a is somewhat tight, but you have over 20 minutes of jack-around time at the ojai 76 before we head up the 33.

if you'd like, we could move the 8a meetup to 7:40a. :P

2) i wonder what the fukk you have to do in Ojai so early [coffee]...i thought this was a motorcycle ride [moto] not a HUNTING trip...

3) why dont you just move the meet up in Ojai at 9:00? who is going to fukking wake up at 5:30in OC to be in fukking Oxnard at 7 fukking 40???

4) the meet up in Oxnard is at a gas station probably an avarage of 50miles away from anyone who is partecipating. How many of them are going to have to "look for"  8) an un known location for the first time [drink]?...how many of us can determin exactly how long it will take them to get to said location [drink]???....

there goes your "realistic" timing down the drain.

5) (i almost forgot) how many folks that are meeting in Oxnard know where the Ojai meet up is? HA! 25min to get from Oxnard to Gas station in Oja, with out knowing the way????

....ELEFANT SHIT POOP!!!!!

i'm not sure how many other people from the OC are planning on showing up, but one of 'em is planning on having breakfast across the street from the ojai 76 at 8am. that is, of course, if he's still coming. he sent me an email last night that put him on the tarik list.

1) i think nobody has ever had to wait on me not once (ok, once)...and if i say ill be there, ill fukking be there 10min in advance...you know it and i dont know where the sarcasm is coming from...

what criteria are you using for "ever?"  [laugh]

2) i wonder what the fukk you have to do in Ojai so early...i thought this was a motorcycle ride not a HUNTING trip...

just trying to leave ojai no later than 9a, homie. we have people to meet in taft for lunch.

4) the meet up in Oxnard is at a gas station probably an avarage of 50miles away from anyone who is partecipating. How many of them are going to have to "look for" an un known location for the first time?...how many of us can determin exactly how long it will take them to get to said location???....

dude, it's right off the freeway exit. you can't miss it.

if you google map it (or mapquest, or yahoo maps, or whatever), it gives you an approximate travel  time. if you plan according to that time, you'll show up early.

...he doesnt cout. We know he's crazy...

...and what the fukk are YOU doing there at 8:00am?!?

i was planning on having breakfast w/ tom, but seeing as his participation is sketchy, i'll probably shoot for the early meetup at 7:55. if i miss it, i'll see you guys in ojai.

Out to the end of Cerro and back the same route. Cerro, Lockwood, 33.

This is our day(s) off, let's enjoy the ride.

If we have to wait, we have to wait, it's a long trip...

Pismo daytime temps...  high 60's
        night time temps...  50 - 49

Taft  area temps will be in the 100's, same with most of the route.

and..... as a side note. the grapevine is closed due to a chemical spill right now, which leads me to say...it's fire season. If in the event, fires close any or all of the routes, and people still want to ride. The 155/178 loop is still an option, and lodging is free too.

JC....... come on man....... you'll be way ahead of AMY & with that new pipe, you won't hear any pregnant doging...... even if he wears his cute flip-up helmet [cheeky]

I'll be in the garage with BP & my namesake [laugh]  Derby & Luca can have the Master [moto]

See everbody in Ojai & let's have some fun....... it's rare that I get two days to myself without the kids so there's no way in hell i want to babysit tomorrow  [leo]

I told my Dad to aim for Taft @ noon & look for a big pack of bikes near a Chevron.

We also have access to my Mom's second car so we can drive over to Trader Joe's & get some supplies for the evening festivities [thumbsup]

Hi all. Have the weekend off after all; I'm thinking I might catch you all at the 8:35 meeting point. I'll probably take off from here 6:30ish (ouch) so I can take the backroads; 23->150->33 rather than the normal route. Hopefully I'll motivate in the morning and see you guys out there. If not have a fun, safe ride.

My bag is packed and strapped on the bike, my gear is all laid out, my alarm clock is set and then the phone rings. They just took my grandma to the emergency room - she can't move her hands and she hit the ground pretty hard. So, depending on how bad it is, I might not be able to make it. If I see you guys, i'll see you; if not have fun and ride safe.

I'm fine.... swollen and bruised knee

the bike is great, other than the right side is rashed up a lil,

no broken parts.

I swung a downhill righthander a lil too upright, drifted out across the yellow, then like a tard, focused on the shoulder of the road, and dumped it on it's side.

Could have been worse.

Thanks to all for the great riding and lots of chuckles. Hope everyone made it home safe and sound. Gus and I saw one guy (not of our group) who didn't and almost got the helicopter ride. That must have been one HELLUVA WILD RIDE!!! Hope he lives to tell about it.
It was very wise of our group to ride at our own chosen paces and not get in over our heads.
I guess Duc riders are just smarter. (heh, yea right [evil])

Nice to see everyone again.

And for the record I didn't try to run of with Derby's tank bag ;D

So I got gapped by Josiah and Courtney on the last straightaway on Lockwood. NBD, I'll catch up at Fraizer park rd. Nope, nobody's here. NBD, I'll catch up at Pine Mnt. hhhhhhhmmmmm, alone again. Ok, I'll catch up at the end of Cerro. On the way there I get passed by these guys:

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7194254&postcount=225

Hhhhmmmm, there two wide on Cerro on knobbies. What's the worst that could happen [bang] So 2 minutes later I'm seeing if the guy on the DRZ (who is now on the ground) is alright after he "gets run wide by the guy on the GS" :o

He's fine. And somehow I get to Taft before the main group.

Glad to hear your OK bobspapa, good to meet you (again I think?)

Oh, and BP, speedy recovery. Glad you're ok.

looks like I missed some excitement? curious about 1 thing:

- drunk girl show.

Do tell.

Oh, and BP, speedy recovery. Glad you're ok.

while waiting on the shuttle bus (Gus), we hung out in front of the bar thats attached to the bbq place. There was a drunk chick, who, on the way out, stopped in the doorway and dropped her pants to moon the bar. and for some reason, her thong got in the way of a full moon, so she dropped it too.

I be fine. The right side of the bike looks like it tip-toed through barbed wire. The only thing that really needs to be replaced is the throttle grip.

This is just the excuse I need to paint the bike black [evil]

Awesome ride (even for the one-dayers)  [thumbsup]

Thanks again Derb for instigating this... Dad said he's never had a better day on the bike and he was very impressed with the level of riding and camaraderie of the group!  [moto]

Sorry to hear about your Oops! BP...

those weren't boxers, they were spandex shortlets showing off all of luca's mantoe. in his defense, he said it was really cold.

Good times and some nice pics :) Thanks to Derby for setting it up and to everybody else for making it a good outing. A special thanks to Big Gus for riding sweep on the 58, it really made Courtney feel a lot more comfortable  [thumbsup]

For the record I ran out of gas (main tank) at 74.9 miles on 58 which was 10 short of the nearest gas station. Reserve got me to that station which was a one pumper with a line of Harley's about 100 long. It was decided to try and make the next nearest station rather than wait. I followed Derby on to the 101 S. and got off at the first exit. My 2.2 gal tank took in 2.1 gals  :o

Next time I'll go 101 N. as it is about 6 miles to the first station instead of 8 to the one going south.

Sorry about that. I thought you were right behind us but figured you got caught behind the big white truck with the trailer on the last little bit. We get to the intersection at the end of Lockwood and Luca is nice enough to be sitting there waiting to point us to Frazier Park to to the right for gas.

We pull into the station and somebody says "Hey what happened to the Mini?" Luca replies "To tell you the truth I forgot about him." I guess he dropped in behind Courtney and me after we made the right and forgot that he needed to waive you in too. The whole Frazier Park thing was definitely a bit of a change. From there on out you were in the lead  ;D

Had a great time, even with only the half-loop.  :)
Thanks for the org work, derb!

Good to see familiar faces, and the new folks as well!

Happy to hear that Luca didn't have a bad result with that rear tire.  :o

We (Matt, Joey 'n I) ate at the Screaming squirrel for lunch, glad we weren't *really* hungry or working to a schedule, service was slowwwwww. :'(
I tried to get close enough to Joey's bike to pull a plug lead to slow him down, but couldn't.  [cheeky]

Finally got into the 'groove' going back down the '##', and that felt good.  :)

looks like EVERYONE is thanking Derby (for something) so i guess i should do the same? should i?

...well, thanks, then

yo david, yes, in fact i did forget about ya  :-* but in my defense, i told derby and tom to go ahead to the gas station...big mistake...i guess having to wait for the group under the scorching hot sun (lol) COULD have triked my mind and forgetting about you, bor... ;D

anyhow i think that we will rememberd in Pismo  ;D ....at least untill next weekend  [moto]

...tire...

i followed the group at a slow pase through the 58 trying to spare the tire as much as i could. Then decided to do the "boring loop" to Ojai through the loooooong straight 33 bit. I was hanging off the bike trying to ride on the sides of it...

too bad i didnt take a picture! it was scary...by the time i was in Ojai there was a continuos 1inch white strip of thread all around the tire  ;D ...so i stared calling ALL the shops in Ventura and finally found one that would mout the tire...IF i had gotten there in 1/2 hr...useless to say i made it :)

once there i notice a "lowest price guarantied on tires and free mout"...hmmm...SWEET!

the fine print said "free mounting and balancing on tire off the bike"

OK

so when i read the bill it said

tire: 168$

bla bla bla

1hr labour $50

bla bla bla total 236$....wow

SO... i ask the guy about the $50 labour...(the guy worked on the bike for 20min.)

smiling he says i was lucky because they had just reduced the rate to 50$ form $90 (or something)...and they applied $50 bucks to tires because it was, infact a smaller job...

right brhind him was a BIG sign that said " 1/2 hr labour 44.95$"....

so i make him notice that in spite of my "luck", he was still charging me 5$ more than what i was supposed to pay...(forget the lieing)...but i left it at that without giving him the chanse to respond just because i didnt want to hear an other lie...

SO...i go to the cashere and ask about the "lowest price guaranteed"...

"how does the deal work?"

"mmm"..."well, that means that we garantee that the price we give you is the lowest we can give and its garanteed garanteed"...

"...i see"..."can i speack to a manager please?"

"what for?"

"mmm"..."because im pretty sure thats NOT how it works"

"ok, go to the parts desk and ask"

*i go to the desk*

"who knows what the terms are for the garanteed lowes price on tires?"

"i do, what is to know"

"...well, your casheer told me that you could garantee that the price on the tire was the lowes you could give"

"...really?"

"..really"

"...well it means that we will mach any price...."

*i interrupt him with a smile*

"...of course. But you should tell your casheer about it..."

*walk back to casheer*

"...you shoud have a chat with your manager"

*she rolls her eyes and gigles with the other casheer*

*i stop, turn around*

" so what are you giggeling about?
 A) that you dont know what you are talking about?
 B) that you made up a random story to cover that you didnt know what you were talking about?
 C) or that as easy as it might be, you still cant manage to do your job correctly?"

*no answer*

....so i tke my bike and roll home...

of course i jump on the intraweb and look for a cheaper tire...found one for $20 less

this morning i call the shop and talk to the sales guy.

"hi, i found a tire at a lower price"

"is it on the internet?"

"yes"

"we cant mach internet quotes"

"i know, but this is a phisical shop just like you guys not an online shop"

"oh...well, i dont think i can mach it"

"can i talk to your manager, please"

"sure"

"hi, i found a tire at a lower price, i would like you guys to mach it"

"well, i dont think we can, we dont mach onternet prices"

"well, this is not an internet price. If i call the shop on the phone, they will give me the same price..."

"i see"

"yep"

"well, i will have to sak the GM. He will call you tomorrow..."

 ;D

Hey guys,

That was an AWESOME ride, even though I only got to do one day with ya'll.   Phenomenal roads (I'm still seeing Cerro Noroeste every time I close my eyes to go to sleep), and a great group to ride with.  It was a big plus to do those roads with folks who knew them well (especially Lockwood.)

My buddy Knud (the Danish guy on the Sportster), Janak and I took the boring part of 33 south from Cerro and then had a nice blast through the twisties back into Ojai.  Passed a train of about 12 Harleys on the way down.  I don't think they knew what to make of Knud...

Wasn't as fun as doing Cerro and Lockwood again, but we got back in pretty good time (and found a pretty good pizza joint in Ojai -- Giorgio's.)  Sounds like we missed a great trip up north though.

I would DEFINITELY like to ride with you guys again, so please organize another outing!  Thanks to Derby for putting this one together.  And if any of you are going to be up Topanga-way or doing some Malibu canyon carving, drop me a line -- sjlist@verizon.net.

Good times indeed......... Great turnout & glad everbody enjoyed the weekend as much as I did!

A few highlights.......... Lunch in Taft......... man did we make that guys Father's Day & yes that Burrito was "Damn Good!" [laugh]

As mentioned, Derby is an excellent point man, slow where you need to be & fast thru the good stuff, not to mention keeping everybody together & updates on each road as we reached them [thumbsup]

Luca, you made the weekend Pussycat.............. bring me a Michelin.... pronto pussycat [laugh]  Your waitress with the nice "box" & the 6 brothers......... sushi anyone ???  Bike shorts in Ross with Sidi boots.......... priceless!!!!!!  What does "momentarily" mean [laugh]............ you made me laugh so hard my stomach still hurts [clap]

Tom, thanks for driving the Grand Vitara....... I know it was hard to handle all that power ;D

BP....... big thumbs up for letting me ride your pride & joy on the outbound 58 & bummed about your off road adventure on the return trip but glad you got up & rolled away [thumbsup]  Nothing Red Baron can't fix ;)

To everyone else, a big Thank You for riding so wisely & truly enjoying the weekend & the time away [thumbsup]

As Ivan mentioned, let's do this again soon [beer]
